I don't believe in the phrase "so bad it's good."
If you think it's good, you think it's good. Simple as that. Have more confidence about your opinions.

I think the phrase was meant to describe 70s and 80s movie of a certain quality. In that context I think it's completely valid and accurate descriptor.

Possibly, but those days are gone and gone with them are the people who had any right to use it.

It describes a work that has all the hallmarks of being bad (for example: unexplainable anatomical mistakes, failure of perspective, inability to draw a smooth line, basically anything that you might consider derpy) and yet combines so many of these mistakes that it achieves a sort of unique attractive value.
"So bad it's good" describes things that you recognize as low quality (Often from an objective technical standpoint that can't be argued by anyone), but you like it anyway because the quality is low in a way that creates a sort of campy charm. A lot of cult classic movies are so bad that they're good.
There's a difference between "I like x" and "x is good".

The problem is that it more often gets used in situations that are nowhere near objective. People who do not understand these values try to use them.
