What does "safe for work" and "blue board" mean exactly? Is it about not allowing porn and gore? Is it strictly about images or is it also about the text?
/pol/ is a red board, but "posting pornography is not permitted". Same thing with /s4s/, no "porn dump threads" are allowed. So why are these boards red? Just so you can post gore?
>Is it about not allowing porn and gore?
yes
>is it also about the text?
not really. i guess if you filled the text box up with "fuck" it might be deleted. although that might just be because it was a low-quality post. but just having a few swear words in a post will not get it deleted.
>So why are these boards red? Just so you can post gore?
yes. i think an occasional lewd picture won't get deleted from [s4s], but i might be wrong.

Blatantly pornographic text does get deleted and the poster occasionally warned/banned.

Not on all blue boards. /mlp/ has many generals devoted to the art of greentext erotica.

Mild erotica tends to be tolerated, but more detailed descriptions of actual sex is risky.
Should /pol/ really be a red board? Is it really necessary to post gore there?
I feel that moot made the board red as an invitation to shitposters.

I got banned on /vp/ once for participating in a porn doujin scenario writethread. No links or pictures, just pure text.

And it was about Pokegirls, so it wasn't a furry-related ban either.
