They could just send all the RWBY threads to trash honestly. Those stupid threads about a mock/wannabe anime actually make up 15-20% of all of /co/'s traffic now and the mods are trying desperately to keep them cooped up but also prevent them from splitting off into stupid /mlp/ tier fanfic shit. In my opinion if they want to do that then let them if they get booted to /trash/ as a compromise.

Steven Universe generals full of fanfic shit are there already anyway; if people are that unwilling to accept one of even the most basic 4chan standards (that is, fanfic is shit) then at least put them somewhere that lets them know it every time they go visit.

That or mods need to go on a vicious purge of this deviantart/tumblr-y kind of mindset of accepting and encouraging utterly substandard amateur tangentially-related garbage in place of even attempting legit, on topic discussion, that it seems is at least half of /co/ is infected with now.

Fan fiction should be posted on a site for fan fiction, not an imageboard. Your posts aren't discussion and most fan fiction writers are just doing it for attention so it's a kind of attention whoring to boot.

This is part of the problem of not having enough content to discuss. Fans have to fill the gaps with their own content: fan art and fan fiction. Only the barrier to entry for being a fan fic author is way lower so more people try that.

We don't have this problem on /a/ because there's like 50 shows airing at any given time and hundreds upon hundreds of different anime series to watch besides those, and that's not even taking into account how much manga exists.

Every time I go to /co/ I'm surprised how dead the community is. Everybody huddled into little camps, only thing that gets any kind of free form discussion is capeshit.

Yeah, everyone thinks that being a writer is easy, when it really isn't. Good fanfiction is possible, it's just much more difficult than writing your own thing, if the subject is a character based thing. It's a bit easier, but still difficult to pull off well, if the subject is a world based thing, like Pokemon.

I would approve of fanfiction if it followed the proud 4chan tradition of eviscerating everything substandard (read: everything), but I don't the circlejerks are up to the task.

They probably consider it fanart. But technically all draw threads on the porn boards are against the rules and they still allow them so maybe your fanfic is just shit.
