4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?

5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?

6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?

7. What do you think of moot leaving?

9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?

10. What do you think about the current moderation system?

11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?

12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?

13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?

14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.

15. Did you ever get a major GET?

16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?

17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?

19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?

20. Do you have any questions to other users?

Reminder, if a question is too long, better shorten it. :^)

This is long but I'll give it a shot.

1/2

>1.
I was fucking around in the summer after I graduated from high school in 2008, and I started getting into the memes at the time. Eventually the road led me to /b/, which led me to the other boards.
>2.
My homeboards are /a/ and /int/. I don't really have much I dislike about them. /a/ and /int/ are different cultures entirely. I use /int/ to relax and banter and /a/ more for serious discussion.
>3.
A way, any way, just to get rid of serial shitposters like Barneyfag or those obnoxious faggots who shit up yuri threads whining about mods. They are really the largest problem the site has at this point, being that we have no way to ban them permanently. Send a letter to their ISP or some shit. They are breaking a law, after all.
>4.
I use sage but I report a lot less than I used to. Normally if someone is wrecking a thread, that's when I'll use a report, or if they go balls-out with ironic shitposting.
>5.
I lurk on a lot of boards but I really only post on /a/, /int/, and here.
>6.
I make less than twenty posts a day and usually browse when I have nothing to do. Sometimes I browse at work.
>7.
I'm a bit neutral. I feel like he could have went out better but it wasn't really his fault. I blame the shitposters generating conspiracy theories about him as the final straw which caused him to leave.
>8.
I browse /a/ and like it, and I don't really care about /b/. I'm not a big fan of /v/'s culture, but it's not my board so I don't have a right to say whether it works or not for them. I used to browse [s4s] until I realized most of the people there weren't smart people pretending to be idiots, but idiots trying to be smart people pretending to be idiots. I don't care about /pol/ because I'm more interested in international relations which I can get on /int/.
>>

2/2

>9.
/cel/. /tv/ needs a place where they can post that shit, even if it's a circlejerk. Would help clear up reviewer threads, too. I would have said /wsr/ in the past but that's taken care of.
>10.
The mods do their best. I trust that they know what they're doing. The site isn't swamped with spam and is still a great place to hang out. They do what they must, and when a problem pops up, they try to fix it. I would trust them to run this site more than any of the complainers here.
>11.
Yes, but I don't have it memorized.
>12.
The only one that is fast enough is 8gag, but they're all fucking idiots. I used a porn-centric one in the past but it closed down.
>13.
Exlinks. Self-explanatory. I don't use 4chanX because I prefer the inline features.
>14.
I felt at first that the native archive was useless but it proved itself useful for linking to old threads on places like /vg/ and the porn boards.
>15.
Once on /o/ for [s4s].
>16.
Probably join a forum if a replacement imageboard didn't crop up.
>17.
Nope. I only used IRC a couple times for talking with friends.
>19.
I have a friend who browses it but he's the only one who I mention 4chan to.
>20.
No.
>>
1. December 2005, a thread on NG. I found weird this kind of forum.
2. Currently, /mlp/. EQG, of course.
3. Ban cancer, turn this into a secret club again.
4. Yes. No.
5. Both. No.
6. About 9k-10k. Yeah, in both ways.
7. Well, he had enough as an admin, I guess.
8. /a/ thinks they rule this site, which is not true. /b/ is a newfag containment board, totally unusable since 2011. I don't browse /v/, but it seems like it turned into a shit filled with redditors in 2014, thanks to GG. I think [s4s] forces memes too much. I also don't browse /pol/.
9. /i/nvasion :^)
10. What do you mean by "moderation system"?
11. Of course.
12. IBs are about 120x faster than normal forums. The post structure is simple and addicting. Anonymity is also an awesome feature that is almost extinguished on the Internet. Yes, 55chan.
13. No.
14. No, but I got a sext once.
16. I don't know, I only browse chans and yotuube nowadays.
17. No, I don't.
19 (18). No.
20 (19). No.

>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
I found it in January 2013, before I went on a vidya forum on Gamespot, I forget how exactly I found 4chan though.
At first I thought the layout was really abstract but I grew to like it after a week of lurking
>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/v/, /tv/, /r9k/
I like how honest the opinions are on the two former, but it's far too easy for threads to be derailed by random off topic shit.
/r9k/ is fine, it's a place for lonely faggots like me to gather and feel less alone.
>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
Ban faggots who post useless two word responses like "fuck off" or "kill yourself"
>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
Don't use sage, I report cp on the very rare occasion it gets posted
>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
In my 1st year I lurked, I post regularly now though. I make about 4 or 5 threads a week
6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
Well it's pretty much my most used website so yes, I might be addicted.
It's made me a lot more critical and cynical about shit I'm usually okay about.
>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
Don't care, the website hasn't changed much anyway
>8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
Don't post on /a/ but I might lurk occasionally to see what the current popular animu's are
/b/ is complete garbage
/v/ is alright, I'd probably hate it if I wasn't as cynical and liked popular games
/s4s/ is just people acting like retards for the sake of it, I banepost there sometimes
/pol/ is pretty fun but I really don't take it all that seriously
>9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
I'd probably split /tv/ into /tv/ and /film/

cont.
>>
>>443669
>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
Don't mind it, I hate how ban appealing usually never works though.
>11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
I read it to find out about the spoiler tags
>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
I think they offer a good method for quick and easy discussion, don't use any others however, they're far too slow.
>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
Very handy, especially if I just played a vidya/watched an anime or movie and wanted to see the general reaction from when it was initially released
>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
No
>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
I'd probably go to Reddit even though I dislike it
>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
They're mostly indifferent, my sister thinks it's full of virus's for some reason
>>
1. June of 2014. I visited out of boredom and hung around in /mlp/ since that was the only board I was familiar with thanks to the Pony Thread Simulators. It was all fresh the first few weeks I was browsing so I enjoyed it very much.
2. /v/ and /f/ are the ones I go to daily. I don't despise /v/ like other people do but I don't think it's a very good board either. /f/ is mostly reposts but that makes it even better when something new comes along.
3. I think I'd do something to slow done posting on the faster boards. Too many people think the place is just a shitposting chatroom.
4. I use sage if I don't feel like my post should bump the thread back up. If I think it's rule-breaking I report it.
5. I can count on my hands the number of threads I've created here. I lurk most of the time but I post if I have interests in the topic.
6. If I don't constrain myself I can waste all my free time here. For a while I definitely I spent more time on /v/ than actually playing any video games. I wouldn't call it an addiction but I don't think it's very healthy.
7. I only caught the very tail of moot's reign so I really didn't have much of an opinion beyond shock when the news first broke.
8. /a/: Their elitism drives me up a wall sometimes but they certainly maintain a higher quality board than most others here. /b/: Same shit as always. Though I don't think there was as much porn on there pre-Fappening.
/v/: Biggest age range on the site I think. 14 thru 25 year olds yelling at each other about vidya. Niche threads are decent but that's about it.
[s4s]: They're fine if they keep to themselves.
/pol/: Same as [s4s]. I don't think they're the boogeyman /qa/ makes them out to be.
>>
9. An idea I've toyed around with myself is an upload board called /webm/. I'm really just curious about what would be put out with 10MB filelimit. I think we have plenty boards right now.
10. I don't have much opinion. I really wish /v/'s moderation was a bit more like /a/ but since most of the mods reportedly hate /v/ (and for good reason) I doubt that'll ever happen. As long as shit like nipplegate doesn't become the norm I'm content.
11. Yes, when I was new to the site and whenever I forgot how to do spoilers.
12. Having never used any imageboards till a year and a half ago I think I've really taken a liking to them. I check in on a few others form time to time.
13. I used 4chan X coupled with OneeChan for a while, then switched back to just the former because I realized I didn't like how the latter formatted posts, then most recently I experimented with absolute vanilla 4chan for a few months. I re-enabled 4chan X for archival redirection but leave most stuff off since I think the philosophy behind imageboards is simplicity.
14. Eh, they're nice but I wouldn't have many qualms with doing away with them.
15. Nope, but not for lack of trying.
16. I really don't know. Easily the majority of my time on the internet is spent here and there isn't any site I know of that could really ever take 4chan's place for me. Guess I could throw myself into some other imageboard when that day comes.
17. I've visited it a few times. I know Hiro and other mods go on there sometimes but otherwise I never saw much point to it.
19. No one in my family knows I browse 4chan. A few of my friends know. One of them is a /f/aggt as well so we send flashes to each other sometimes.
20. Are there any specific threads that you have fond memories of?
>>
1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
someone in an "atrocity tourism" forum mentioned it in like 2005
2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
[s4s] is nice board
3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
ban half of the userbase so that they make their own site and we have options other than "suck it up" or "move to twitter"
4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
I sage but due to an argument with a mod in late '09, I never report. snitches get stitches
5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
I lurk until I see something to comment on
6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
most of my adult (15-25) life. it's not an addiction so much as this is the least sucky timesink. if not for this I'd be writing awful long books
7. What do you think of moot leaving?
he screwed his own users. he was a failed goon and a hipster. sympathy is not high atm.
8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
perpetually in decline, powerhouse of the internet but also in decline, weak sister neutered by mods, nice bored, not libertarian enough
>>
>>443700
9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
420chan so that 420chan (rip in shit spardot) dies and the mod consensus stops pointing out fucking 420chan as an example of why 4chan isn't a monopoly
10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
if you want people to share your gay morals and politics open a blog instead of trying to shape the internet
11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
yes. new revisions suck
12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
great. all of them
13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
no, those are for fags
14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
remember when moot was for archiving then he wasn't then he was? good times
also remember when he wanted to make it 13 for blue boards and then passed it off as a joke
15. Did you ever get a major GET?
its a secret to everybody
16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
join ISIL
17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
boring circlejerk. mods are pussies and hide behind yotsubot. you actually modded yetsturdly and that is hilarious
19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
who
20. Do you have any questions to other users?
can you stop being shitty please
>>
>>443617
>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
Summer 2013, friend liked me to /a/ archive, I want to 4chan after about a month lurking the archives. I thought it was weird and confusing
>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/mu/ only, I am pretty close to leaving honestly.
>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
Filter more idiotic buzzwords, contain waifu posting, enforce the rules against shitposting, less dumb contrarianism
>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
Rarely, only with really stupid threads or porn
>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
I post and start threads quite a lot,but I also lurk since CAPTCHA is annoying
>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
Sometimes even 10 hours, I think I'm definitely addicted and tried to leave multiple times
>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
I didn't care much for him, but he's better than some clueles nip
>8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
I am very mixed about /a/, it was my first board, but I eventually outgrew anime, also waifu faggotry and best girl posting makes me fucking sick
I browsed /b/ only a few times, thought it was complete shit.
/v/ was my second board, I found some decent threads there but now it's truly unbearable
I browsed [s4s] also only few times, thought it was pretty dumb, but in a cute way
>9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
/cel/, /mov/ for movies, some kind of containment board for capeshittters, rapfags and poptimists, split /v/ to make it slower
>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
It's awful and needs improvement
>>
>>443727
>11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
Yes, several times
>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
I like the interface and the easy access, which is kind of a double edged sword, the discussion is more natural and less pretentious, but there is a lot of retards as well.
>13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
No
>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
Absotely essential for /mu/ because of sharethreads where people find lots of rare stuff, for other boards it's nice if people want to see opinon on soemthing without amking a thread.
>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
46888888 and 59333333 on /mu/ are the best I got
>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
I couldn't be happier
>17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
No
>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
I told my mom once, but she had no idea what I was talking about, I found a few friends here so they know obviously
>20. Do you have any questions to other users?
Did 4chan teach you anything useful?
>>
>>443727
Damn, I forgot about /pol/
I identify with many of their views, but I hate how they act
>>
>1. When and how did you first find 4chan?
Sometime between '07 and '08, met a guy through GameFAQs who told me about it on Yahoo messenger because he kept spamming me with pics of loli and bestiality and I asked where he even gets that shit from. I was a horny highschooler at the time, so it was just another porn site to me.
>2. What are your homeboards?
/qa/ and /mlp/. I like the atmosphere, hate the userbase.
>3. If you could change one thing about this site...
I wouldn't change it for the world.
>4. use sage? report posts?
Frequently, unless I'm posting a contribution. Frequently, because it seems like everyone else has a rebellious aversion to it.
>5. lurking or posting?
Lurking unless a particular discussion catches my attention and I feel like weighing in, or when I'm contributing. In all my time here, I think I've only ever made 5 or 6 threads personally.
>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan? think you're addicted? in a positive or negative way?
Use to be upwards of 16-18 hours a day, but I've since cut down to 8-12 usually. Fuck yeah, it was an addiction and still is for the most part. I was prioritizing 4chan over real-life, putting aside potential job opportunities and throwing my already limited social life out the window.
>7. moot leaving?
It's a shame, but I can understand how stressful running the site could be. Wish I had a chance to talk to him before he left.
>8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
I feel /a/ has bloated entitlement issues thanks to ingrained favoritism, /b/ was always shit but it's worse now because it's no longer random, /v/ is too popular for its own good and its culture clashes with questionable moderation of apparently on-topic video game threads, [s4s] is boring to me but despite its users' "ironic" positive attitudes it's a bit revitalizing in the growing cynicism everywhere else, and I don't care about politics but for fucks sake I wish all this off-topic political bullshit
>>
>>443749
would stay on /pol/ where it belongs instead of tainting other interest boards.
>9. If you could add boards... ?
They should bring back /q/, make it visible, and then never respond to anything in it. It'll be just like feedback letting people vent, but make them feel better about it because they'll see what they posted publicly.
>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
I think they were too lax in certain areas, making people think whatever they posted was appropriate. Although that could just be because nobody fucking reports anything. Anyone who even suggests we don't need others treating the site like a toilet to constantly shit in, they get called a rulefag.
>11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
Multiple times.
>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general?
They're a great concept for content sharing and unfiltered discussion, when they aren't being abused by users who treat it like an "anything goes" environment.
>13. Do you use any extensions?
I started using 4chanX recently after years of skepticism, specifically for the thread watcher updating threads better than the native one. After spending some time exploring its features I've been utilizing quite a few more than I initially planned.
>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving?
It comes in handy if I find or miss a sizable or major happening thread I didn't have time to read through and want to catch up.
>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
Recursive palindromes once.
>16. If one day 4chan would stop existing... ?
Go back to GameFAQs probably. Or wait for the inevitable replacement.
>17. Do you use the IRC?
I use to pop in occasionally, but nothing was ever going on at those times.
>18 missing
>19. Do your friends/family know?
No.
>20. Do you have any questions?
When did using this site stop being about having fun and started being about unquestioningly upholding ideologies? I keep hearing it was back in the chanology days around the time I first joined
>>
>>443617
1. Came here around 2006. Just stumbled upon it.

2. /vr/, /hm/, /r9k/, /g/. Only complaints are /pol/shill posters injecting themselves into threads to whine about their SJW boogeyman, and a lack of moderation. /hm/ has turned into the gay version of /soc/, even though camwhoring has always been against the rules.

3. Nuke /pol/ and perma-ban anyone who even remotely espouses /pol/like views.

4. I sage all the time. Reporting is useless since the mods don't give a shit.

5. Usually just lurk. Rarely start threads. No point since they would only be shitposted in.

6. Maybe a couple of hours a day.

7. I think even moot had enough of /pol/'s shit. GamerGate was probably the straw that broke the camel's back.

8. Shit, shit, shit, shit and shit. All of them should be nuked.

9. Nothing. We have too many boards as it is.

10. It's practically nonexistent. Some boards are more heavily moderated than others, but on average, there aren't enough mods to go around, or they just don't care anymore.

11. Enough to be grounded in all the rules pertaining to whatever boards I visit.

12. This is the only one I use. The anonymity of it is preferable to dealing with usernames and reputations, but you have to wade through tons of shitposting to find any serious discussion.

13. 4chan X. 4chan uses tracking cookies, and enabling cookies is the only way to use 4chan's native extensions. 4chan X gives me the same functionality without being tracked.

14. It's just another shitty way for 4chan to track our post history.

15. Yes, and it was deleted by some butthurt mod. I wasn't actually trying, it just happened. I was nonetheless banned for posting a completely on-topic message, just because I happened to score a GET.

16. And nothing of value was lost.

17. No. Chatrooms are almost always circlejerks and autistic bannings.

19. No. I doubt they're intelligent enough to know what an imageboard is.

20. No. I couldn't care less about your opinions.

And to actually answer some of the users' questions:

>Are there any specific threads that you have fond memories of?
The one where I started "rulefagging" in. Boy do people get upset when you question their reasoning for supporting off-topic or unnecessary shit.

>can you stop being shitty please
>He says while being shitty
:^)
If you wanted a website that caters to your mindset, you could always "make your own site" or open a blog instead.

>Did 4chan teach you anything useful?
It taught me people who willfully subscribe to groupthink, desperately latch on to a communities ideals, or enforce a culture or ideology that falls in line with their own while disparaging anything that strays even slightly from that are highly irrational and easy to provoke.

>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
Back in 2009/10 when it was talked about a lot on a forum I used. My first board was /b/.
>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/a/
>like
Relatively newfag free compared to other popular boards, good user base which generally cares about post quality
>dislike
Too many sexually focused threads, generals, Xshit vs Yshit shitposting

>like
Great for big events, fun gamethreads

Generals everywhere, making it very boring when sports aren't on.
>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
Ban generals
>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature?
I have it on default
>Do you report posts?
Yes
>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting?
I can post anywhere between 0-200 posts per day, and I still lurk when banned.
>Do you regularly start threads?
Very rarely.
>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average?
Pretty much constantly while at home, I always have at least one tab open.
>Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
Maybe, but if I wasn't here I'd just be on some other website anyway.
>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
I was a little sad, but not as much as others as I haven't been here that long or had any personal interactions with him.
>8. What is your opinion of the following boards:

My first board, have barely set foot in there in the last 4 years.

Not much of a gamer so I don't go there often.

Fun. I mostly only lurk the anime threads when I go there.
>and /pol/?
A lot of newfags, but great for happenings. Their "shitting up" of other boards is overstated.

Yes
>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
Previously used 8 occasionally for something things not found here. Other than that, I have never really used any other than 4chan.
>13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
4chanX because it has so much more than the inline extension. Most convenient feature is archive redirection.
>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
The native archive has been a great addition, it was very annoying to have threads 404 overnight and having to use the much less convenient third party archive to read the rest of the thread. I also use the third party archives a lot, for nostalgia and to see old threads about shows and events that I wasn't around for.
>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
No major gets but I have probably had at least ten quints and have twice been off by one for septs (7 in a row)
>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
Probably go to the next most popular imageboard, or whatever has been anointed as the "successor".
>17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
Never used it.
>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
I don't think anyone knows I do, and I have no idea if anyone I know browses it.
>20. Do you have any questions to other users?
No
>>
>>443617
>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
2005. Got recruited to /b/ from cybernations. At the time I wondered how moot convinced his parents to let him keep 4chan.
>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/news/, /pol/, /tv/, /qa/ and sometimes /sci/ and /x/. What's not to like?
>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
I'd add a couple of new boards and allow more ascii characters in posts.
>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
Yes and yes.
>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
I lurk about as much as I post.
>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
10-12 hours a day, but I am fortunate to be able to get on all day at work. I'm probably addicted but it doesn't seem to affect my life in noticeable ways.
>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
Not surprising, but it wasn't like he was around a whole bunch in the years before that anyway.
>8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
/a/ - weeb supremacy, /b/ - trying to be more perverse than ever, /v/ - arguing about arguing about vidya, [s4s] - dead horses, /pol/ - earnest racism
>>
>>443791
>9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
/tin/foil - conspiracies and occult , needed to relieve pressure off /pol/ and to fix /x/.
>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
I honestly don't have much of a problem with them, and I say that as someone who gets banned at least once a month.
>11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
Once maybe a few years ago. I don't remember.
>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
Tragically underrated forum format. I try to turn invisionfree BBSs into imageboards.
>13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
'DownThemAll!', oh and I use my own custom CSS string to turn greentext into a different color, if that counts.
>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
It's probably not a good thing that there are so many. Even worse are the shady ones like sheekyforums.
>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
I've gotten quints at least a couple of times but no MAJOR gets.
>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
Find another imageboard, probably one of the older ones.
>17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
I haven't used IRC since the late 90s when FSERV was a new thing. Shit's crawling with too many small town cops and lurking upstart Chris Hansen wannabes.
>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
My family disowned my decades ago. The few friends I have might have heard of 4chan but don't understand what it is.
>20. Do you have any questions to other users?
All my questions are already other /qa/ threads.

1.It was the halcyon days of AOL around 2000, I was IMing a woman 8 years my senior. She was a furry. A lot of people were. Me too, maybe. It was the internet. She is how I came to 4chan. Of the various cartoon animals she flicked over, she also liked the Raven of Teen Titans. A bisexual. To impress or "butter her up" I would try any opportunity to find pictures for her. This was before the concept of "Rule 34" got a title, but there has always been porn of everything. Given this was AFTER Teen Titans started, that puts us after July 2003. 4chan was born October that year.

In the search, I came to 5chan, looking for furry and/or Teen Titans porn. And liked what I saw. On 5chan, I learned of 4chan through whispers and cryptic aphorisms. The URL redirected to this picture. As time passed the whispers changed. The wind was changing; 4chan was coming back! What oh what could this mean?! I'll have to check it out. This was some time in either MASSIVELY LATE 2003 (since 4chan was born in October, this would have to be after that) or MASSIVELY EARLY 2004.

What I thought: I never left.

2.Over the years, I've taken refuge on many. /b/>/tv/>/co/>/v/>/pol/. Now I bounce between /v/, /tv/ & /pol/. I don't know if I CAN call any of them "home."

3.How "one thing" are we talking, here? If I had one thing to do, A hard reset, returning it to its state in 2005 or so. Posts could become Marked for deletion (old), that's for sure.

4.Yes, for years. And since it was hidden, I use it more. Also, yes, why wouldn't I? If it's off topic garbage.

5.I prefer posting, because conversation is why I'm here. I make maybe one thread a day, at the absolute most. I may have even rounded that number up to the nearest whole number.

6.Some days it's dawn to dusk. Is it an addiction to want to talk to people about things you're both interested in, in a way where there are no stakes?

7.It was a sad day for me. For 4chan as a whole. moot leaving was indicative of a change in the zeitgeist of the
>>
internet. In fact, even now, Anonymity is falling by the wayside at every possible opportunity. He was shackled to a sinking boat. As soon as he could get out, he did. I can't say I wouldn't want to follow him...if there was something like this, only not terrible. All other *chans seem to be.

8./a/: No opinion. /b/: A stagnant ocean of piss. No reason to go there. /v/: Junk food. [s4s]: Fun at the start. Lost interest. It does fulfill something I've felt this place needed since about 2006 or so; More /b/'s. Didn't come soon enough. /pol/: Memes aside, is a great place to talk about things political. And since TV is dead as a medium, where am I going to get spicy news?

9.Not a board, but a cross-board concept. I'd describe it, but this has already too long. No, then, I would not.

10.They seem woefully understaffed and/or woefully unprepared for what they are doing. On some boards, ILLEGAL off-topic things live for hours, and legal off-topic things die of old age.

11.Years ago, probably.

12.A great concept. I have used other *chans. But not recently...I have sought refuge in comfort/familiarity in the last two years.

13.I couldn't tell you the name, but I use to use a filtering script that died years ago. The functionality came into the native one, but I've never bothered to learn how to format shit on this native one, so I don't even use that. Native extension: disabled. Also use to have a script to extend filenames (they were in parenthesis and coul...)

14.It's fucking disgusting. moot's TedTalk, awkward as it was, should be treated as gospel on this website. Ephemerality is key to all this. He may have gone too far in a few places.

15.I'd have to look in a folder on a different, disconnected computer to tell you for sure, but I think probably at least once. 2004/2005 there was nobody here.

16.Finally organize the folder full of images from here.

17.I did, once. I left immediately. Not my sort of thing.

19.My wife does & she does.

20.Not really.

1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?

>I found it somehow in late '08. My first introduction was /b/, and as soon as I scrolled down that first page I was in love. Gore, porn, random dickheads. I felt straight at home, what a wonderful place!

2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?

Sure, there's no better way to spend my time than fill a tl;dr survey nobody will ever read.

>1. When and how did you first find 4chan
Late 2006 or 2007, googled some maymays. Came to /b/ first of course, thought it was stupid in the fun way.
>2. homeboards
Moved from /b/ to /v/ quickly. It was my home for a long while until two years ago I got fed up with the horrible drop in quality. Moved to /int/, now it's just pitiful "banter" and forced memes. I browse /trv/ and /tg/ too but the former is too slow to be a home and I'm not that heavily into tabletop to spend my days on the latter.
>3. If you could change one thing about this site
More mod activity. Both in fucking around with the site and users and actually responding to reports. Get rid of /pol/. Giving up and bringing that shitfest back over and over again was moot's greatest mistake.
>4. sage

>13. Extensions.

Mixed feelings. They're great if you want to find some specific upload or info but otherwise I feel like preserving every post in history is the opposite of what 4chan stands for. Amusing threads used to get logged anyway on vote-based archives, there's no need to track out entire posting history.

Additional question I'd like to ask:
>What do you think of tripcodes and tripfags?
>>
>>443617
1. First heard of it as the origin of the MLP fandom in 2012. I don't really remember my first impression except that it was a pretty seedy place.

2. I've migrated every few months but my homeboards have included /mlp/, /pol/, /co/, /tv/, /sci/, /his/, /qa/, and /trash/. I guess the main ones now are /tv/, /qa/ and /trash/. /tv/ has shit memes but sometimes good discussion about specific shows/movies. /qa/ is good for learning about boards I don't usually visit, I always keep an eye on the happenings thread. Too many fucking whiners who think the mods actually read this board though. /trash/ has that sweet horse pussy but like half the board is hunger games threads that I couldn't care less about.

3. I'm pretty cool with the way things are desu.

4. Yes and yes, especially on slow boards where it might take a long time for a thread to go away naturally.

5. I don't regularly start threads but I do post in most threads I visit.

6. Way too much time. I'm seriously addicted and this is having a serious impact on my productivity.

7. moot was a faggot imho. Like I said, I came here in 2012 and the only cool thing he did in the entire time I've been here was nuke /pol/. Hiro is better.

8. /a/ seems alright. I watch a little anime but I get the sense that it's for people who are way deeper into it than me so I don't go there much. /b/ is shit. /v/ is shit but possibly more fun that /b/. I'm not sure if [s4s] is really, really dumb or I'm just too dumb to get it. I went to /pol/ a lot when I was new to the site and really enjoyed the ability to say anything and the feeling of never knowing who was trolling and who was serious, but lately I've sort of lost interest in politics, stopped going there and resent the way /pol/posting leaks into other boards.

9. Can't think of any I would want to add.

10. The system itself is alright, the mods could do their jobs better though.

11. Read the FAQ before I made my first post. Who doesn't?

9. /cel/ - ecelebs but only to ban everyone like the furry board did
10. Flawled, but I got banned twice for shitposting (and regret it) so it kinda works. Wouldnt do the job even if it wasnt 4free.

1. Back in 2007 I think, after a few years of lurking Encyclopedia Dramatica, but didn't post until summer of 2008. Thought it was retarded (and still do), but amusing in its own way, and I liked the anonymity and fast pace.

2. /int/,/pol/ and /vg/ right now, sometimes /g/. I like /int/ because every so often you'll learn something about foreign cultures. /g/ is good for a 3rd or 4th opinion on a tech question, as well as for a jaded perspective on working in IT. /pol/ needs no explanation. /vg/ is complete shit but necessary.

3. Trim a few boards.

4. No and no.

5. Posting if I'm interested in the thread topic, lurk otherwise. I've started maybe 4 threads in all.

6. A couple hours a day, if I'm using a web browser it'll often be open in another tab. Definitely addicted, in a very negative way.

7. What do you think of moot leaving?

Was bummed at first and saw it as the end of some sort of era, but it honestly hasn't made any difference really, since I've never cared about /d/. Wonder what he's doing now, could see him coming back in some capacity.

8. /a/: Don't care about it, went there 2 or 3 times and got flashbacks to the humid stuffiness of a weaboo friend's room, so GTFO.

/b/: Never browsed it that much, ironically it seems to have become /soc/-lite recently.

/v/: Act cynical and contrarian, yet Steam profile threads and every other board survey I've seen says they love Skyrim and COD, and aren't much different from /r/gaming. Gamergate was a pointless shitshow.

[s4s]: Never really been there, they don't seem to take themselves seriously and produced some dank memes, so they're cool.

/pol/: Usually deluded beyond all reason and dislike how they've influenced the rest of the site.

9. Wouldn't add any, moot was right about fragmentation and overly narrow focus.

10. Seems okay.

11. Yes, but I can't remember any of it.
>>
>>445772

12. Good places to shitpost and collect images. Posted on Krautchan's /int/ for quite a while but stopped when 4chan got its own /int/.

13. Extraflags.

14. Good for tracking down old threads and images, arguably goes against the idea of 4chan but w/e.

15. No, most I've ever gotten is trips IIRC.

16. Be depressed, ultimately come to see it as a good thing.

17. Nope.

19. Some of my friends browse 4chan, I've had mutual acquaintances with Anons on /r9k/, one time I think a guy who went to my college posted his picture in a thread. Browsing 4chan isn't something you go spreading around.

20. Not that I can think of.

1. 2007. I thought of it as a cool source for jokes like YTMND or something, much like how probably a lot of redditors think of it today.

2. /co/. I like animation and work in the animation industry. I don't like all the live action cape shows/movies that are allowed to be there.

3. Bring back moot.

4. All the fucking time! I'd say a good third of my posts are sages. If I was interested in posting for the attention I'd be on reddit. I mostly just hide threads instead of reporting unless it's really blatant.

5. I like posting. I don't really go to a thread I don't have something to say about.

6. I just have it open in the background when I'm at home. If I'm drawfagging then sometimes I'm on for hours at a time otherwise just sort of on and off when I'm not doing something else.

7. I loved moot. Remember canv.as? Canv.as was basically what led to me going to art school and becoming a storyboarder for animation. Thank god for Christopher Pool, wherever he is. Now without him we're just sort of drifting the ocean of the internet on the corpse of 4chan as we once knew it. I don't think this place will ever be great again.

8. /a/ - I wish I liked anime so I could post on the god of all boards. /b/ - who cares? /v/ - impossible to take seriously after gamergate. And also before gamergate. Really just a shitty place for shitty people. [s4s] - I don't visit it. /pol/ - Probably the longest lasting legacy of 4chan will be the people who went to /pol/, saw some jokes, didn't know they were jokes, decided to unironically jump on the bandwagon, and then eventually outnumbered the people who remembered when it was ever a joke. This applies to almost everything /pol/ says.

9. Split /co/ into separate /co/ - Western Comics and /ca/ - Western Animation boards.

10. It works.

11. A long time ago. Isn't it just stuff like "how to sage" and "you might get banned?"

12. I'm starting to like lainchan more and more. They have a "/zzz/ - Dreams" board.

13. No. I'm actually not positive what this question means. If you mean chrome extensions then I use HTTPS everywhere because moot said to.

14. No real opinion.

15. No and I don't really try. I do hope /qa/ is around long enough for it's 1m get at least. I like this board despite all the /q/posting.

16. Be sad for a bit and then talk to my friend with a luelinks account about getting one for myself. I think I need an internet community to be a part of and they added anonymous threads a few years ago that I feel like I could use to ease into the place until I get used to having a persistent username and shit.

17. Nope. Never been and never interested in going. Isn't it just a place the mods hang out? I don't know.

18. oh there's no 18...

19. NO, DON'T KNOW AND NO. The topic never comes up and if it did I would lie about it.

>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
Kept finding /b/ memes everywhere around the internet, found the place as a result. This is one of the few places on the net where the most intelligent, concise and verbose bump shoulders with some of the dumbest cunts you'll ever stumble across, and I fucking love the resulting dynamic.

>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/diy/, wsr/, /o/, /sci/.. All are rooted in objective knowledge, there is no room for fucktardery and it's immediately called out when noticed. I like facts, not opinions.

>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
Strict and effective age filtering. I hate being reminded that there are 13 year olds fucking everywhere here.

>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
Yes and yes.

>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
Lurking, maybe twice a month.

>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
~3 hours a day across the whole day, I can take it or leave it. I was definitly addicted in my 20's when I got here, no so much anymore.

>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
Had to happen eventually, good luck to the outrageous faggot. He's got a higher profile than I ever will. Not a fan of how invisible Hirosimoot is by comparison.

>8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
I do not offer opinion on things I don't care about, but we all started in /b/, its important to remember your roots so you can see how far you've come.

>9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
Never thought about it, but I have always felt a hardcore electronics board would be neat.

>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
Doesn't get in my way and takes care of problems on my home boards, no beef here.

This is the only one I use, to be honest I waste enough time here, last thing I need to do is find another time sink.

>13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
Nope.

>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
I concede it does defeat the immediacy and ethereality of 4chan, but it's handy as fuck to be able to look up old topics when they come back up or call tripcunts out on repeatedly poor behaviour.

>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
Nope, and have never tried.

>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
Move along with my life. There is alwasy something new, I just haven't had motivation to find it.

>17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
IRC yes, channel, no.

>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
Those that understand that 4chan =/= /b/ do, my partner browses /p/, /po/ and a few other arty boards, my old man (diesel mechanic) lurks /o/.

>20. Do you have any questions to other users?
Why the fuck are you triggered faggots so incapable of ignoring things/posts/trips/anything else that you don't like? And why do you think doing something that would see you completely ignored IRL (that is, screaming about it like an autist) would work here? See also, 13 year olds.

Hating outsiders is just part of our culture. I remember when moot remodeled the front page to be more welcoming to new people and everyone's response was to start spamming the "this image requires a 4chan gold account" images to counteract it. Moot got legitimately upset and I always felt bad for that.

I'm sorry moot, please come back.

>>443750

Not far wrong. There seems, to me at least, to be an attitude that we must maintain the boards as a snapshot of an idealised version of the board in question, when the reality is that the very nature of 4chan makes it an ever evolving beast. This maintain attitude didn't really exist before the chanology citadel was built (that I noticed at least), and the attitude of "keep the infiltrators out" kind of bled out to the board broadly as a result, and amplified the existing "supr sekrit club" mentality that existed among the underage b& who didn't know any better. . I guess you find your fun your own way, I still do or I wouldn't be here anymore.

1. I found 4chan through shitty anime Facebook meme pages. I thought it was a very nice site. Simplistic style, etc. It's hard to recollect my thoughts on it.

2. /v/, /co/, /b/, and /ic/.
/v/ can be good, but the unholy amount of shitposters and eceleb shit really take the fun out. Not to mention the oversaturation of those dumb "lol" threads.
/co/ usually has good threads, but I never spend too much time there since I never read comics. Fuck RWBY threads though, Christ.
/b/ is exactly as you'd expect. Nothing new.
/ic/ usually has great topics, though it ruins my self esteem since I'm an insecure fag about my art.

3. Better mods in /v/.

4. I only report eceleb posts and what not on /v/ just cuz I'd rather not see them clog up the fucking place, even though they will anyways.

5. I'd say I do about 50/50. It's pretty even. I'll only start threads if I'm really in the mood, so not very often.

6. I'd say about 5-6 hours a day on weekdays, and 7-9 on weekends. I think I'm addicted, but I don't mind since there's always something to think about on this site

>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
I found out about 4chan throught old Bungie.net's "The Flood" off-topic forum back in late 2009/early 2010. "Oh look, a place to anonymously talk about video games where you won't get banned for having an honest opinion of a video game."
>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
I mostly use /v/. I like video games, but I dislike most people that identify as a "gamer".

I'd ban lewd/porn/blatantly sexual things altogether. I'd delete trash.

A little posting and lurking. I almost never start threads.
>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
Many many hours a day... Probably 6+ on average. I'm addicted. 4chan hasn't been good for me for about a year now, but I feel as if things are getting slightly better.
>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
I think he did the right thing. I can totally see how this place was bad for his well-being.
>8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
/a/ - The more vocal/shitpost/elitist users seem to think they can look down on everyone else just because they watch Chinese cartoons, and that this website was originally mainly about anime. An over inflated ego, really.
/b/ - It's garbage.
/v/ - The userbase is mostly underaged or just plain dumb. I believe a high number of people there only come to 4chan for /v/, and usually spend most of their time on other websites.
[s4s] - People acting as dumb as possible for pleasure. Userbase is comprised of all ages. A few of them probably have some legitimate problems.
/pol/ - People pretending to know about politics.
>>

>9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
I don't think I would add any boards.
>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
Alright. Based when they actually do something, but inconsistent, and even negligent at times. They let some things slide too far before stepping in and deleting threads and posts or banning someone.
>11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
Yes.
>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
I see imageboards as an interesting mix between traditional forums and chatrooms. Make a post as you would on a forum, but get replies much sooner, like in a chatroom. I don't use any social media website other than 4chan.
>13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
4chan X. The thread auto updater works properly almost every single time. I like forcing anonymous on everyone. It makes me pay more attention to what is said, instead of who says it.
>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
The native archival feature is useful to see past threads. I like how deleted threads don't even show up. Third party archives are useful for looking back on a few threads in the more distant past.
>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
I guess? I got quintuple zeroes on /v/ in late 2014. Not very good, but not bad.
>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
Panic, panic, panic. I'd probably take a while to adjust to such a change.
>17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
No. I'm not really interested in IRC in general. Maybe that's just because none of my few friends use it?
>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
No. They probably know only about 4chan as much as most people do. No.
>20. Do you have any questions to other users?
No.
>>
>>443617
>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
Mid 2004, starting from /t/. I torrented R-Type Final for my Playstation 2, I think? ... I actually didn't start browsing the website until, let's say, four to five years later.
>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/v/ and /vg/. I'm a man of vidya and I love OC/board culture so it's the shit for me. What I dislike is the obvious bad rep on the rest of the site for visiting them, because you actually don't discuss anything except for videogame humor.
>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
I'd add events. Imagine going to /b/ one day and the background is a looping flame .gif with Dragonforce playing in the background. This is the kind of shizz I'd do.
>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
Yes. I use sage often, mostly if I'm replying in a dying/bait thread I don't want to bump. I don't report or nonoko as much as I sage, though. But I've helped boards with that sometimes and I'm positive about it. You oughta do it too, anon.
>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
Posting. I start about one or two threads a week.
>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
From one to two hours a day... it actually helped me. It's an addiction but I'm generally less anxious in real life, I can say I learned to stand by my opinions and take some opportunities.
>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
I just want to buy the website... I'm saving some money and I think people would like me...

8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
/a/ is a falseflag; don't believe the hype. If only you could constructively criticize it without being thrown shit at...
/b/ is worrysome, many people save images directly from "other places" and you can see it.
Already explained /v/.
[s4s] is for memesmithing, if "other places" always copy us, they have good memes. I don't got here but I'm thankful. It's not a quality board, more patrician than anything.
/pol/ gave me Ben Garrison which is the best meme since, uh, forever on this website. I never stop laughing. Rest's shit though.
9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
I have some projects in my mind... You'd be happy to know...
10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
Too much sheltering in some boards, too lacking on some. Every board with a few perma-bans would be completely fixed. It'd take minutes.
11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
Every NYE, I read the rules and FAQ. Always keep yourself posted.
12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
I'm positive. Every chan should love the next one. 2x4chan is a failed experiment, futaba is pretty uncool...
13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
4chan X. Thanks to whoever made it.
14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
Positive. Please keep them up.
15. Did you ever get a major GET?
I got quints with 0s. Nobody ever checked them...
16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
I'd make another one...
17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
I never do, I strangely can't access it.
19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
I'm sure my dad secretly searched hentai on here one time...
20. Do you have any questions to other users?
Report, sage, don't be rude to other boards and make OC.

Sorry if my responses are TL;DR tier

>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
Ironically enough, when I was a stupid 12 year old, I was browsing sites like Know Your Meme of all places. It was in 2009 that I first heard of the website 4chan, and boards like /b/, /a/, and /v/. I decided to stay away from 4chan, because I thought it was a weird site with a weird layout, and (I laugh at this looking back) a more mature userbase.
Years passed, I entered high school, and in 2013, I was browsing Reddit of all sites. I was bored at the time, and thought of my time in middle school browsing meme sites. And then I thought about that mysterious 4chan, and decided to visit the website itself.
I decided to start lurking /v/ for a couple of months. After that, I made my first post, and never looked back on Reddit and KYM again.

>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
I don’t know how many boards I call home, but /v/ is my main home. I also frequent /f/, /g/, and /o/.

>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
I can’t really think of an answer to that.

>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
I will sage posts that I really feel the need to reply to, but are still blatant shitposts. Like the kind of obvious b8 that still triggers me hard. I also report blatant porn threads, and blatant shitposts (GT-R v Corvette on /o/, Stolen iPhone on /g/, etc.)

>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
I stick to lurking a lot, but I will post in threads if I have something to share. Unless it’s /v/, in which I will shitpost because every post on that board is a shitpost. As for starting threads, I rarely do so, unless it’s posting files on /f/.

>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
I believe I browse 4chan about 5-6 hours a day. Now that I think about it, I do have an unnatural attachment to this site, and I’ve had my highs and my lows browsing here. I don’t know what’s going through my head that’s making me come back.

>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
I never really had any problem with moot when browsing the site, and I liked the shenanigans that he pulled on the boards from time to time. I thought it was a damn shame that 4chan was losing its original admin when moot announced his retirement, and I was worried about who his replacement was going to be for a while. However, when Hiro was announced to be the new admin, I felt a little uneasy, amused, and ultimately satisfied with moot’s decision for the new admin.

>8. What is your opinion of the following boards:
>>>/a/
A bunch of faggots with shitty elitist taste, drooling over the latest SoL garbage that comes from Glorious Nihon. I actually enjoy a lot of older anime series, but I personally think that anime in general went to shit in 2011, and it’s rarely been good since.
>>>/b/
Just a bunch of porn threads, furry threads, general shitposts, and just posts of no value whatsoever.
>>>/v/
It was my first board after all, and I still call it home. A lot of people hate it, but I feel like I’ve come to be conditioned with the shitposts over time.
>>>/s4s/
A pretty fun board, just memes that are pretty unique in their own funny way.
>>>/pol/
They’re a bunch of paranoid racists that won’t stay on their own board. I just wish that /pol/lacks would stop making everything about SJWs, da joos, and conspiracies on other boards.

>9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
Probably /cel/ - Celebrities and Internet Personalities and/or /im/ - Internet Media. I’m just sick and tired of seeing constant Twitter, YouTube, and e-celeb threads on /v/, and there needs to either be some sort of containment or banishment for these people.

>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
I don’t really have any problems with it, although I will admit that mods are a little vague when it comes to bans sometimes.

>11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
When I started browsing 4chan, I did read the FAQ a couple of times. Nowadays, I never touch it.

>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
Imageboards are a fairly unique and (apart from 4chan) niche portion of the internet, allowing for shitposts unseen elsewhere.
I use 7chan from time to time. I also used 420chan once, and tried using VIIIchan, but I was never allowed to post properly there for some reason, so I gave up on it.

>13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
I use 4chanx, mainly because it makes browsing easier, add archive links and allows the interface to be customized.

>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
I think that thread archiving is a neat concept, as it can record the “history” of 4chan, and give users a searchable outlook into the site’s past. The only problem with archiving is how it’s done, as usually this archival process can be costly for the archiver.

>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
The most major GET I ever remember getting was quads on /v/. Nobody gave a shit when I rolled those 0’s.
>>
>>446438
(cont.)

>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
I honestly don’t know. Maybe start riding on an alt chan like 7chan, but other than that, I’d have trouble looking for something to do with my newfound free time.

>17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
No, although I’ve though about doing so.

>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
My family knows that I browse 4chan, which to them is “that weird site where greentexts come from”.
I also have a circle of friends that I met in high school. It wasn’t until about a year after I started browsing 4chan that I realized that they used it as well, and we’ve constantly meme with each other since we all found out.

>20. Do you have any questions to other users?
What do “oldfag” and “newfag” mean to you?

How do I do that?

>>443729
>Did 4chan teach you anything useful?
/o/ did dispel some myths about fluids, and /g/ has given me some advice in configuring GNU/Linux builds.

>>443750
>When did using this site stop being about having fun and started being about unquestioningly upholding ideologies?
It hasn't yet for me. I still manage to have fun on this site without it having to devolve into ideological or political bullshit.

>>443853
>is it just me or was this a lot of questions I don't know how useful this would be also I had to delete the questions themselves so I guess one more thing is that character limit and other restrictions should be limited ok bye
I don't exactly know how to interpret that.

I'd be a child tho.

>>444251

I don't know actually. I never use muh SJWs or muh joos or some other boogeyman in my arguments anyways.

>>444260
>What do you think of tripcodes and tripfags?
I think they're useful in single threads (OC and shit), but they add unnecessary ego when used across threads and boards.

>>444375

Yes.

>>444383

No.

>>445796

Never used it, unfortunately.

>>445807
>Why the fuck are you triggered faggots so incapable of ignoring things/posts/trips/anything else that you don't like? And why do you think doing something that would see you completely ignored IRL (that is, screaming about it like an autist) would work here?
Usually I just ignore and filter trips and threads, but some bait posts instinctively trigger me.

>Report, sage, don't be rude to other boards and make OC.
Pretty solid advice there, anon.

And that's it from me.
>>
1. In 2007 my friend introduced my to ED and thus I came upon /b/. My first impression was the typical "fun".

2. Just going to spout hate instead of going on about what I like since there are commonalities

/a/ - They forgot what they used to post and now narrow the topics of the board by whining about certain threads

/v/ - You just can't get anything across here

/tv/ - Memeposting is rampant, still can be fun at times

/mu/ - Ironic shitposting and death grips

/x/ - Can't even visit it regularly anymore without getting mad. Everyone fucking left. There is no possibility for decent creepy discussion and the mod team doesn't care.

3. Better moderation, more descriptive report feature, stickies on boards that need them. BAN IRONIC SHITPOSTERS

4. Yes and yes

5. I lurk more than I post, I start threads even less.

6. I spend most of the day here. Not addicted to the site, I just have nothing better to do. I'm isolated and the only people I can relate to happen to post here. Of course it's negative.

7. For the best, he wasn't doing any good here his last years.

8. /a/ is fine except for what was described above, /b/ is just /gif/ now and has no OC, /v/ needs improvement, [s4s] shouldn't exist, and /pol/ needs to stay in its board.

9. Not getting into this, way too complicated and board specific.

10. Garbage

11. Sure

12. I'd probably like them, but I don't use any others.

13. 4chan x for convenience and a stupid little script that lets me have a .png of Lain in the corner of the window.

14. Nothing but positive things to say about archives. 4chanarchive's loss is something that makes me mad every day.

15. A couple of times

16. I'd be upset, but is this place really ever going to get better with the current state of internet culture? With how mad it makes me, I'd be better off without the internet.

17. Never cared to even try it

19. No and there is no way in Hell I would ever mention it.

20. No, but here's a request: please help make this place better.

>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
Back in 2007, I went to a summer camp where, I shit you not, one of the counselors had written a song with lyrics for acoustic guitar about the habbo raids. I'd seen lolcats and shit before and was eager to dig deeper into the internet, and through encyclopedia dramatica I ended up here around 08. I tried /b/ but it was too disorganized and a little disgusting for me, so I went back to ED for a while. I came back around the summer [s4s] got made and hung around, it was good for a while but i got bored. A year or so later I got a car and started posting to /o/, later when moot left I started browsing /f/, just last summer I started browsing /a/.

>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/f/, /o/, /a/, in no particular order. /f/ is full of reposts but there's often something good there. /o/ is so full of shitposting since cars are expensive and people don't have wide enough experience to talk intelligently outside of statistic and generalizations, but if you like something there's someone on there who does as well. /a/ is just crap mostly, outside of threads for currently airing shows, which are entertaining.

>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
Clearer rules and exceptions, and more consistent enforcement, mainly. Also image capchas are a cunt.
>>
>>447010
>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
Not really, unless I just want the thread to fall off quickly. Only when the post is clearly a rule violation.
>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
I rarely start threads, maybe once a month, and post daily.
>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
3-5 hours a day, yes, it's neutral, kind of bad.
>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
He held on for over a decade if I'm correct, through all the shit, so it's understandable, though I want him back.
>8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
/a/-already answered on #2
/b/-haven't been there in a while, they aren't the driving force they once were I guess
/v/-their mindset of hating everything is bad I suppose, I don't know if they're the originators of that culture but I don't like it.
[s4s]-nice board
/pol/-the spread of their ideas, across all boards it seems, keeps me up to date on world culture and politics
>9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
none, I think we have enough
>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
I think some mods are cunts but they're mostly invisible or irrelevant to me.
>11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
yeah, a long time ago
>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
I tried 420chan and (4*2)chan, they both seemed to run a little slow for me
>>
1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
Early 2010, I remember trying to find violent and gruesome deaths when I was 13. I really didn't understand the site but I kept coming back.
2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/ic/, the thing I hate the most are the people who try to force memes on that board
3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
Better mods

4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
Sometimes, but I do report obvious low quality posts.
5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
Lurking
6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
About an hour or 2 in total a day if Im looking at others art. I'm not addicted.
7. What do you think of moot leaving?
I hated it, and I still hate it.
8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
They're bad, but the least worst would be /a/. The others are just completely retarded.
9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
None
10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
I wish the smaller boards would have more moderation or something.
11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
Yeah, read it every 2 months just cause.
12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
They're cool, being anonymous is alot better than trying to gain rep or doing circlejerks on forums.
14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
I only use to too see what others think of something, usually if it's a character or a movie.
15. Did you ever get a major GET?
I got a pent before.
16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?

no

12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
(cont.) they're pretty good, a little dated but a solid cornerstone of the internet at this point.

I use ublock origin and noscript, but no 4chan extentions. Used to use 4chan x.
14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
It's useful, but not a critical thing to have.
15. Did you ever get a major GET?
got quads once while shit-talking a guy who missed dubs by one, can't remember anything else major
16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?

used to use the EDirc, haven't used irc ever since I left there though

I know a guy who browses /pol/, /b/, /gif/ and /k/, he's alright with it, not too into 4chan but doesn't hate himself for browsing it at all. No one else, friend or family, knows I browse though.
20. Do you have any questions to other users?
Not really, I'll just read their survey answers.

11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
>I think so
12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
>no opinion. nope.
13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
>no. had 4chan dark or something for a while to change colors at night.
14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
>I think the fact that threads disappear quickly (at least on /b/ is part of the anonymity/honestly/say anything aspect of 4chan that makes it great. that said, I love when funny shit that happens here is saved.

15. Did you ever get a major GET?
>hhahah, no

16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
>probably check out the other chans I've heard of but have never been to
17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
>no
19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?
>no, nothing,no.
20. Do you have any questions to other users?
>no, I just wish people understood there is a difference between wanting people to lurk moar and not be newfaggots (good things) but thinking that needing to lurk moar/not be newfags means "this board is about /what I like/what I think, gtfo you don't fit in". i think board culture doesn't have to mean only certain ideas are on topic. (like what I said about /x/.)

good luck on your survey, OP. I guess that's a question I have - why are you wondering all about this stuff?
>>
>>447817
I kinda believe it. That's the impression I get from most threads on this board tbhfam. Newfags that come here tend to just make a thread bitching about how their post got deleted on /v/ and then leave.

The appeal of a hidden, slow meta-board about 4chan sort of requires you are intellectually invested in 4chan to begin with. So you know, maybe you've been here a while.
>>
1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
idk, 2010-2012?, I was to afraid to go in
2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?
/pol/ there are some good posters around the shit
3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
A better moderation
4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
No, no
5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
Lurk, no
6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
between 1h and 30 min a day. but some times I spend 3h due to fast nature of /pol/
7. What do you think of moot leaving?
He had the right to leave us.
8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
/a/ more sectarian that your average weeb. I remember that there was one mod that lost it when got informed that Naruto belogned to /a/. Then started an autist shitposting spree on /a/.
/b/ you grow out of it quickly
/v/ you shouldn't eliminate generals from a board.
[s4s] Is a nice board.
/pol/ ^
9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
I'd be most likely eliminating boards.
10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
Shit
11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
Yes
12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
4chan is cool. No

Fallback to forums
17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?

>1. When and how did you first find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?

I found 4chan in 2012 iirc.
I opened up /b/, almost puked and wiped my drive.

I came back in 2013 when I discovered that other boards aren't as bad.

>2. What are your homeboards? And what do you like/dislike about them?

I browse /int/, /r9k/, /sci/, /g/, /ck/.

/int/ and /r9k/ have turned to complete shitholes recently.
I'm slowly moving away from 4chan.

>3. If you could change one thing about this site, what would it be?
I'd kick everyone that sounds underage based on posting history.
I'd also kick out animefags and turn 4chan into a textboard.

>4. Do you regularly use the sage feature? Do you report posts?
I sage often, but I stopped reporting things too often, simply because they're not removed.

>5. Do you prefer lurking or posting? Do you regularly start threads?
I post a lot. Typically I start 2-3 threads daily.

>6. How long do you spent your time on 4chan at average? Do you think you're addicted? If so, in a positive or negative way?
At some point I was spending all waking hours.
Now it's like 4-5 hours a day total on imageboards and forums. 4chan is getting a smaller chunk than it used to.

>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
I don't care. I disliked him as a person, but as it turns out he did an almost decent job at managing the site.

>8. What is your opinion of the following boards: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?

>/a/
I don't like anime. I probably never been to the board.

>/b/
absolutely disgusting, but interesting at times.
I haven't been at /b/ in like 2 years.
But I was there with toaster steve.

>/v/
Underage gamers. I don't go there

>[s4s]
Literally children.
Well, either that or mentally challenged people.
It's 100% garbage.

>/pol/
15-16 year old bullied faggots. Most will grow out of it, some will not.
Disgusting people in general, but I kinda feel sorry for them.

>9. If you could add boards, which ones would you add and why?
/feel/ or /derpression/ or something
It wouldn't work though, ironic shitposters would ruin the board unless there's very, VERY strict moderation.

>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
It no longer works. I can't provide a guideline to fix it, because I would ban half the site if I was a mod. And obviously hashimoto doesn't want to lose half his traffic.

>11. Did you ever read the FAQ section?
Yes. I was looking about sage and spoilers etc

>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
I never understood the idea behind an imageboard.
Images are better dumped as albums if you actually want to share them.
It's pretty much a forum with thumbnails and good image support.

I browse one more imageboard regurlarly, but I'm not going to mention it's name.

>13. Do you use any extensions? If so, which ones and why?
Adblock plus. I used to have some youtube extensions too, but HTML5 made them irrelevant.

>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving? This includes native and third party hosts.
It's good. There's always going to be someone archiving 4chan, now at least it's public domain and easily accessible.
It also serves as a good reminder that nothing is really anonymous.

>15. Did you ever get a major GET?
5 digits or something. Nothing major, and it was by accident.
I hate dub posters. I wish they would stick on /s4s/

>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
Go about my day. I'd be kinda curious to see where the userbase would migrate. I guess other chans.

>17. Do you use the IRC channel? What's your opinion about it?
I've used IRC in general, but it's inherently unsafe.
You broadcast your IP to a bunch of weirdos. I don't use it regurlarly, and I'm certainly not going to use in on 4chan's channel.

>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? What do they think of it? Do they browse 4chan too?

I never told anyone, and I'll never tell them. If they find out, well, whatever, but I'm not going to do this to myself.

Not only because of the stigma, but because 4chan's mentallity genuinely doesn't represent me.
Oddly enough, one of my roommates once casualy mentioned browsing 4chan. I didn't know he did.

He didn't seem like that kind of guy, and he made me feel like 4chan isn't as weird as it seems.
So in a way he short of assisted my introduction to this shithole.
I also met a femanon IRL.
So yeah, only one person knows it.

>20. Do you have any questions to other users?

I think you covered almost everything I'd like to ask anyone here.
Also I don't expect people to read so far down my post.

btw you skipped No 18 :^)

>1. When/how did you find 4chan? What did you think of it at first?
~ 2010, a friend introduced me. I was scared to go on my main PC, so I used an iPod touch.
>2. What are your homeboards? What do you (dis)like about them?
/g/, rarely /sci/ and /3/.
I dislike that programming and computer science has to be mixed in with the phone/OS/processor shilling.
>3. What would you change about 4chan?
Release the source code, make a public Git repo.
>5. Lurking or posting?
Lurking, but I post when I have something to say.
>6. How long do you spend on 4chan?
It's hard to keep track, Clover F5s for me.
>7. What do you think of moot leaving?
I'm surprised he stayed as long as he did.
>8. Your opinion of the following: /a/, /b/, /v/, [s4s] and /pol/?
/a/: 4chan was started as an anime site. I don't care much for it, but there's something to be said for history.
/v/: I wish they didn't spill over to /g/ so much.
[s4s] /b/ /pol/: No comment.
>9. If you could add boards, which ones and why?
Realistically? Something like /gp/ - Cell Phones and Portable Technology.
Unrealistically? /gp/ - Computer Science and Programming, /gh/ - Computer Hardware (Build threads, etc.), /gm/ - Mobile Devices.
>10. What do you think about the current moderation system?
Please don't ban me.
>11. Did you ever read the FAQs?
Yes, long ago.
>12. What is your opinion about imageboards in general? Do you use other ones?
I like the format. Yes (a tech-related one). I built one as a project.
>13. Extensions? Which ones? Why?
I browse mostly through Clover, so yes, in a way.
The browser doesn't notify me of replies.
>14. What is your opinion about thread archiving?
I use archives frequently, and believe they are a good thing.
>16. If one day, 4chan would stop existing, what would you do?
Cry. I have so few friends, I can't afford to loose this one.
>19. Do your friends/family know you browse 4chan? Do they browse too?
My brother and a few assorted friends know. Most of them browse as well.
>>
>1.
I heard of 4chan from my uncle. He told me to stay away from it, which sparked my curiosity. Started lurking in 2011. I started where most newfags start, /b/. It was a shock to the system but I was a fucked up kid and got used to it. Started branching out to other boards and realised /b/ was a shithole and not as funny as it was back when my uncle lurked. Started posting in 2012, became familiar with the board cultures and did my research on chan history.

>2.
I used /mu/ a lot before, but it's gotten exponentially worse as more teenagers have appropriated themselves into it. Only really use it for sharethead.
I use /tv/ for the the best banter. Good board for a laugh. Bad for a legitimate discussion.
Occasionally I'll use /lit/, /diy/, which are quite slow, and /vg/.

>3.
Get rid of the giant logo on the homepage.

/a/ is 2D waifu shitposting.
/b/ is newfag board.
/v/ is newfag board 2.0 with sprinkles of game discussion.
[s4s] is pointless.
/pol/ is cancer.

>9.
/ra/ - Retro Anime

>10.
Haven't been banned in a while so I can't speak for everyone, but it seems like it's much more strict which can be positive in some places and unfair in others.

I think I started out on /b/ somewhere around 08. It was the gateway for "cool" edgy 15 year old kids.
I'm pretty sure I came for the fucked up shit and anonymoose.
>2.
Homeboards are /v/ and /a/, formerly also /fa/, and I spend a lot of time on /vp/ currently.
/a/ is okay I guess but /v/ is one hell of a shithole. Any blatant consolewar, "never ever", "now that the dust has settled" etc etc thread should be immediately deleted and the poster banned.
/fa/ just about looking pretty, not about fashion. Shit board, but what can you do. It's a hobby that both requires money and developed taste, and the average /fa/ poster lacks both.
>3.
Punish shitposting of any form way harder.
>4.
Yes to both.
>5.
I only very rarely start threads, but I do post a lot.
>6.
I lurk nearly 24/7 and post even when I'm at work, like I do right now. I don't get any signs of withdrawal if I can't use 4chan for a month or something, I have a social life unlike many people here, but I guess I would miss it.
>7.
I'm sad, and hope that Hiro doesn't fuck up. Moot did a good job over the years.
>8.
In order: fine, gets worse by the year if that's even possible, needs way more moderation and is basically /b/ 2.0, dunno, I don't care about turbo right wing lunatics.
>9.
Split /v/ in a console and pc board to reduce shitposting and speed.
>10.
It's too lax on some boards and too inconsistent on others. /vp/ is a moderation disaster.
