Very often, threads for a series will see users posting (and sometimes translating) fan comics affiliated with that series. People rarely object to this unless it's something really fucking weird.

A little bit on occasion might not seem so bad, but when fanfiction becomes a major focus, it's basically dragging things offtopic (away from the actual material that's supposed to be discussed) and makes threads revolve around the people writing it. If a board is for comics and cartoons, it should be about the actual comics and cartoons.
As for doujins, they just prove the above: doujin authors are Japanese and don't come into 4chan threads to make ecelebrities of themselves, and events like comiket filter the crap and let the best rise to the top, and they have to be translated after that, so 4chan only sees a tiny selection of top doujins. Even then, they're a minor sideshow and threads focus on the source material, except when it's a thread about discussing porn to begin with. Fanfiction doesn't have these filtering mechanisms, so you end up with some faggot pushing his personal magical realm.
