I would not be surprised if the idea of banning video games from 4chan was outvoted at one point in 4chan's history.
What's really wrong with /v/ (and the entire website) is that people believe they are expected to do certain things under certain circumstances. A lot of people that go to /v/ go there with the very intention of acting like a total moron. The people that cry "X board is bad anyway!" are the ones that perpetuate that mindset in the first place. The reputation of most boards is upheld for no reason other than that's what you're supposed to do here. Think of all the habits and posting styles on many boards, and how they actually go against what could make the board better/good. Popular belief tells people that the culture on 4chan is to act like an idiot, and so they follow the rest of the herd.

Speaking for /co/ at least i think its just people on their 20s bitching about newer generations, literally old men going full "in my days we didn't do that, the future scares me because i can't understand things anymore", /co/ is surprisingly fun and good for discussion when they actually focus on their hobbies instead of the industry, and unlike some people there may think the industry isn't being invaded by "tumblr" but rather trying to survive by catering to young people, which ends how it ends, people from /co/ aren't part of the demographic so of course newer shows will not be made to please them, unfortunately they lack self awareness so they just assume there is some organized plot against them or some shit like that
