This was the cringiest thing to ever come out of 4chan. Seriously GooberGate was so fucking stupid, it fucked up the site permanently. We got an influx of redditors (/r/KotakuInAction) and ultra right-wing faggots obsessed with cucking shitting up the whole site, circlejerking over the same political shit like free speech and censorship. Why bros. Why did this have to happen.
>>
I think she's cute. I wish she wasn't associated with GamerGate because Vivian as a concept is great. Just a girl who likes playing video games.
>>
>>412160
>GooberGate
The movement is retarded but people should really stop calling it that.

Fuck I don't even know how anyone with self-respect can actually call someone a "goober" with a straight face.
>>
>>412168
The word "goober" sounds extremely stupid and childish, I use it to describe GG because that's what the whole movement is. I'm not some /r/Gamerghazi tumblrina either, I just think the whole thing is dumb as hell, grown men and women fighting over videogames.
>>
>>412168
shut up goober
>>
I have no idea why they appended the word "-gate" to the end of something as benign as an ex-boyfriend lying about his ex. As if it gave it credence to compare it to the level of scandal that Watergate was.
>>
>>412173
>I'm not some /r/Gamerghazi tumblrina either,
You sound exactly like one.
>I just think the whole thing is dumb as hell, grown men and women fighting over videogames.
Video games are a multibillion dollar industry. It would be like people calling out clickbait and dishonest misrepresentation of facts on the tv news. You really have no excuse to be this ignorant of it now while making such brazen statements about what happened.

>>412207
>something as benign as an ex-boyfriend lying about his ex.
It wasn't about that at all. See above. Whether or not you were involved or have any stake in what happened, there is no fucking excuse for this level of ignorance over something that was such a huge deal here for a while.
>>
>>412234
>a huge deal here for a while.
Lmao, everyone who stayed out of /v/ for a month would've missed it. It really was the most embarrassing bit of activism 4chan was almost dragged into.
>>
Your A faggot.look at our web traffic. It spiked in September of 2014 due to the fappening not gushergate. Right now our traffic is the lowest since 2011
>>
I sorta blame the whole stupid internet activist mentality shit, these faggots saw all the whole Lejin shit and thought "Wow, 4chan is a great platform for activism!", and suddenly there were people who thought "4chan is about freedom of speech guys!", even though there were a lot of rules and other stuff that said otherwise (not to mention have been here for years).

Suddenly they learned the hard way that 4chan is not for activism, got pissed about it and left like the dumb whiners they were... and when I mean left, I mean beg everyone to leave with them by shilling and shitposting.

It was a pretty cool way to scare off newfags who thought 4chan was "edgy web activism central"

>>
>>412319
>>412317
Its both of those subreddits that shit up /v/. Though I think r/4chan is more confined on /tv/.

Point being, while The Fappening brought in a massive influx of newfags and shitposters, GamerGate brought in more right wingers, SJW's, and underage faggots to /pol/ and /v/. Both of these incidents did a lot of damage to 4chan. The Oregon shootings didn't help matters either, since Chris Harper-Mercer posted on /r9k/ before the shooting happened, and the FBI found out and news agencies picked up on it
>>

Project Chanology was the start. The newfags ruined /b/, then they started to migrate outwards.

>>412416
Nobody who left was worth anything. 8 is a joke and a dumb one too. People used to cry about 7 and 12 back in the day too.

>>412402
/pol/ has always been a mistake. Somebody forgot to give those dipshits the memo that it was all a joke, then they ran with it.

Push the page count to 25 or 30 on /b/ and delete /soc/, /s4s/, /pol/, /r9k/, and /trash/. Let the pony posters have their day on /b/ again too. I fucking guarantee you the cancer would be gone in a month at the most.

Banning generals would go a long way too on the smaller boards; /sp/ is a fucking ghost town now and each one on /co/ is just a few guys in a circlejerk.

Hiro, make 4chan great again.
>>
>>412416
My sides. The traffic loss myth comes from 8gaggers, that was to be expected.

There are 200,000 people on 4chan RIGHT NOW. Traffic has never been this high before. Hiro is struggling to make ends meet with the incredibly high server costs.

This website would be a lot better if you guys would fuck off tbhfam. Go back to 8gag and stay there.
>>
>>412425
Again with the 8gag bullshit. Only mods or janitors tell people to go back to 8gag. We still lost a majority of oldfags though you have to know that. The ones that came in after them are all faggots from Reddit, Tumblr, Facebook, and Youtube all brought here because of the myth that 4chan is just a shitposting place.
>>
>>412424
>/pol/ has always been a mistake. Somebody forgot to give those dipshits the memo that it was all a joke, then they ran with it.
The old news board was perfect. It was basically /pol/, but with more opinions. Also a lot of funny shit used to happen on there between the Brazilians and the Americans. That said /pol/ is hugely popular on here. Most of /pol/ woke people up the migrant crisis in Europe and helped spread the rise of Donald Trump. /pol/ has a huge influence as much as people hate them

>Push the page count to 25 or 30 on /b/ and delete /soc/, /s4s/, /pol/, /r9k/, and /trash/. Let the pony posters have their day on /b/ again too. I fucking guarantee you the cancer would be gone in a month at the most.
I agree on most of this. Honestly I do like /trash/ mostly because of the RP threads. I agree on deleting /r9k/ and expanding the page count on /b/. Getting rid of /soc/ however would be sadly a mistake. Keep the camwhores there because then they'll go to /b/ and flood it. /s4s/ for sure needs to go, but swaglord will refuse to get rid of it, seeing as though he's treated as a god on there, /pol/ can't go either. We'd take a huge hit in traffic.

>Banning generals would go a long way too on the smaller boards; /sp/ is a fucking ghost town now and each one on /co/ is just a few guys in a circlejerk.
General thread banning was tried on /v/, and /vg/ is pure garbage now because of circlejerking. Smaller boards I do agree on. But I guess people like them because you can all talk about one topic people like. /sp/ is still the only popular sports board on all of the other chan sites. And its not a ghost town as one would think. Things heat up on /sp/ during Baseball and Football season.

No, the difference is that the TV news is a rather large vector of information and a significant means for many people, regardless of interests and profession, to shape their opinions and views on the world (for better or for worse,) while video games an trivial escape from reality that caters to a small demographic of 10-30 year olds with some time to kill and disposable income to waste, and video game "journalism" is even more trivial.

GG was just a modern chanology, so it was banned. His reasoning was because he was out of the loop as he wasn't browsing at tat time, so he was most likely filled in by the mods. But it doesn't change the fact it straight up shouldn't of been allowed since day one
>>
>>412601
I don't remember Chanology being banned.

And even if it were, that doesn't mean gg should have been banned. Originally what happened was that it was quarantined to one thread. This setup was fine and worked for everyone. Then out of nowhere it gets banned and moot's justification is that they were harassing people, which is complete nonsense to anyone who was following the threads. Their threads consisted primarily of e-mailing advertisers. And if anything, they were very adamant about not giving the visage of harassment because they recognized it worked against them and in their opponent's favor.

Even if there were some bad apples, they shouldn't have spoiled the bunch because that wasn't was being advocated implicitly or explicitly in the threads.

And yet even if it were the case there was harassment going on, saying they can't use /v/ as the basis for their activism is one thing, but banning any kind of discussion on it everywhere on 4chan was not right.

Chanology was banned, you can check moot's q&a and the mods' justification didn't just end at blanket harassment. It was banned because it couldn't stay in one thread and was clearly becoming something that needed to organize on another site.
>>
>>412619
Again, it /was/ being kept in one thread. It's just a straight up lie to say otherwise, and it was doing just fine. On what basis did it need to be organized somewhere else?

Again, even if were acceptable to say that they couldn't organize, it wasn't right to stop them from speaking about it at all. This had become not only a major gaming topic, but a relevant news topic as well.

It was activism, simple as that. Ever since chanology most people have been incredibly hostile to any forms of activism on the site. Being actual activism is enough for something to be globally banned and rightfully so. It being contained into a general doesn't change the fact it was there and the insanely negative effects it caused on the site.

On top of that, it was never /v/ related nor was it ever 4chan. It was also something started by non-4chan users. Kill yourself 8gagger
>>
>>412633
>On top of that, it was never /v/ related nor was it ever 4chan. It was also something started by non-4chan users.
Literally no idea what you're talking about.
>>
>>412601
It wasn't allowed from the get-go. They posted this stuff on /pol/, and they got banned for doxing. That's when they started whining about free speech, because it wasn't allowed on any other website either, including reddit.

A mod made the mistake of commenting on the situation, which initiated the Streisand effect, so the mods had no choice but to allow discussion about it in generals. A month later it was still going very strong. The media picked up on it and reported the harassment and death threats that some people got due to this movement, so they obviously had to put the ban hammer on them.

>>412610
Chanology was unanimously disliked too. They took things too seriously while anons used to do it for the lulz. No kind of invasion was allowed back then.
>>
>>412635
It was never /v/ related. It was also never a 4chan thing and was something by outsiders. It was LITERALLY chanology 2.0 in almost every sense. It was stupid moralfaggotry that shouldn't of been allowed and only stayed because muh free speech and because at its time, moot wasn't active on 4chan because he was doing real life things.
>>

Corruption in video games is certainly /v/ related. At worst, it belongs on /pol/ or /b/, where it was also banned.

>It was also never a 4chan thing and was something by outsiders.
No, it was started by people on /v/.

> It was LITERALLY chanology 2.0 in almost every sense.
Not really. You can say they're analogous in that they're both movements that started on 4chan, but they had completely different goals.
>>
>>412645
Yea, it was being kept in one thread. There was no reason for it not to be. Everyone who cared about it saw the chain threads. They were extremely fast and active.

moot's sticky was nonsense. I already addressed this.
>>
>>412647
The only thing you've addressed is that you are stupid 8gagger. It was banned for being activism, it doesn't matter if it was contained. That is enough to wipe it off the face of the site. 4chan was never was and still isn't about free speech.

I don't agree with the "THERE ARE STARVING CHILDREN IN AFRICA" deflection, though I do agree that in this particular case the only reason 4chan gave a shit was because of a scandal with a girl who was slightly attractive and dressed "alternative" involved in something sexual was why anything happened.

Except no one though she was attractive. No one cared she was a woman. She had a small blip of attention back in like late 2013/early 2014 (when she was a literal nobody) because she claimed she was being trolled by people on wizardchan. This is why she was even on the radar of /v/'s consciousness. However, 95% of the people who got involved in early gg (before the name) had no idea who she was. No one cared about her and the idea that gg was a front to get at her is media fabrication.

What really made them care initially was Kotaku's involvement. They saw a Kotaku writer fucking someone's game he promoted as a way to discredit them further. After they started talking about it, discussion on it started being banned on certain sites, which just intensified interest, creating the perception that members of the media were protecting one of their own. If things weren't being censored early on, gamergate would have never came to be because nobody really cared /that/ much about the situation.

Yea, and? The United States has rules forbidding you from expressing certain things too. You don't have the right to, for instance, yell fire in a crowded building or defame someone. Free speech doesn't necessarily mean you can say whatever you want in any context. There are always restrictions. 4chan has been about free speech in the sense that people have generally been empowered to express whatever opinion or imagery they want, being limited by US law first and foremost, and then tone, format, and topic. So it doesn't meet the standards of the US constitution, but free speech is a spectrum, and it exists closer to the freedom end than pretty much any other major online community. Providing a place for people to express (legal) things without fear of reprisal is a basis of 4chan and it's what the community has offered.

You're an idiot. The whole /b/ day thing protest in 2006 happened because moot started to ban CP on /b/. He started removing things that were literally illegal and people blew up and this what led to the migration to 7chan.

A shitton of other things on 4chan were done in the name of free speech like when people DDoSed the Australian government because they were trying to censor the internet.

People have always cared about free speech here, just because m00t (he's gone now) changed his stance a couple years ago after he grew up and said something once in a QA session, doesn't change what the site has always been about for the userbase.

The people who usually push this "4chan isn't about free speech" are goons and redditors.
>>
>>412831
There is a major difference between the users of the site believing in free speech and the site being about free speech. I fucking believe in it myself, but you are a deluded retard if you think that was ever the purpose of the site. Anonymity =/= free speech which is a common misconception. You can make a post about god damn anything you want on the site because of the anonymity system, but the mods and admin are free to and will ban you for it and censor any and all topics they don't like. It's always been like that and its newfags who think it's the opposite were they think they can post anything and get away with it.

The one thing I want to stress here is less moderation. Yes shitposting is a problem, but an even bigger problem are self-important assholes (both on staff and not) who want a safe space and jackbooted thugs to castrate anything slightly off-topic.

Just let it burn. That's what we used to do in the old days and it was great. The sheer volume of content will push out unpopular shitposters. That's why I said to get rid of /r9k/ and /pol/; make /b/ great again. That many people together in one spot is only going to produce the survival of the fittest just as it did in the long, long ago.

tl;dr - you can't breed Anonymous by selectively thinning out the herd. You have to let nature take it's course.

Fuck yes, absolutely. The more moderation you have, the easier it is for people to infiltrate and manipulate the community. If you're always banning anyone with an opposing viewpoint, you're giving those people your protection.

The best thing to do is only moderate things that are outright illegal or totally off-topic. We need smarter moderation, not more moderation.

That's what they do already. If you disagree and think that the mods delete things they don't like, don't imply that your standard for what should stay or go is universal or even "smart." You're worse than people who describe themselves as rationalists.

Gamergate was rightfully deleted, especially because I think Zoe Quinn requested it to be deleted. Website admins are required by law to fulfill that request.

>>
>>413075
4chan has always followed the US law, dude. The only laws that have ever really been ignored is piracy and the like, because who the fuck cares about that.
>>
>>413076

Go home Leddit. If any kind of controversy anywhere involving someone could be 'outlawed' by labeling it 'libel', then you couldn't make any claims about anyone ever. It's not like any of this could be called libel anyway, the GG thing covered journalism as a whole, not one individual.

>>413078

There are no laws being broken here, no need for moot to fulfilll any request. He just bowed down to pressure.
>>
>>413089
>by labeling it 'libel', then you couldn't make any claims about anyone ever

The story of Quinn sleeping around with journalists proved to be false. They could start a lawsuit when they feel they are being defamed. The owner of the website can't be held responsible, but it's illegal nonetheless. 4chan has always followed rule 1

>You will not upload, post, discuss, request, or link to anything that violates local or United States law.

>'''''''''''''''journalism'''''''''''''''
>>
>>412160
Wait, what the fuck happened? I typically never leave /a/ or /d/, and I haven't heard anything about this.
>>
>>413095
>The story of Quinn sleeping around with journalists proved to be false.

No it wasn't. It was true, the part that caused confusion is that there was no review written for the game by one of the journalists, only one mention of it in an article. By the point the thing was banned, no one had been talking about that for weeks though, it was just the jumping off point.

>They could start a lawsuit when they feel they are being defamed.
Anyone could do that, I'm sure you can find countless amount of 'libel' on /pol/ or /b/ right now. There's no one to be held accountable since this is an anonymous board though, and removing the entire thing makes no sense since it was a much broader discussion and no one cared about Quinn after the first few days. moot did it but legality had nothing with it.
>>
>>413100
/v/ trolled some politically correct faggots so hard they're still coming here to post butthurt denials like this thread.
>>
>>412700
>No one cared she was a woman.

Neither of us can really have proof for such a claim, but it was damned obvious that GG in general carried a grudge against women who happened to profit from the video game industry, with a few cherry-picked examples to show otherwise.
>>
>>413116
>we were just pretending to be retarded!
>>
>>413125
The difference is that you have to do a lot more mental gymnastics to believe that thousands of gamers actually care all that much about the sex life of an irrelevant indie dev just because she happens to be a woman.

GG and non-GG gamers have bad feelings towards people who are leveraging claimed victimhood in order to manipulate the video game industry in their favor, whether they're women or not.
>>
>>413136
lol
>>
>>413125

What happened is: due to the fact that the person involved in the scandal was a woman instead of a man (unlike previous scandals), the feminists got butthurt and started attacking people who were questioning journalists. So instead of being about just journalism, they turned it into feminists vs. gamers, which was a thing that had been building up for quite some time. Then it escalated to a gender war, and then a standard Left vs. Right thing.
>>
>>413111
Like I said, Zoe Quinn may have personally asked to delete it.

moot later put the ban hammer on it because activism is something that does not belong on 4chan. You can hate him and the mods for this all you want (even though you'd get banned for expressing it), but these kind of movements were never allowed on here.

The harassment and death threats were not coordinated on 4chan per se, but people within the movement decided to release their anger this way, whether you'd prefer to see them as false flags or not. Rule 4 applies.
>>
>>413151
>but these kind of movements were never allowed on here.
Chanology WAS allowed here and so was gg. They only got banned after they got "out of hand." Besides, /pol/ is engaging in some type of activism every week.
>>
>>412160
We should cuck GamerGaters and GamerGhazi niggers, OP. You and I would make a hell of a team.
>>
>>413151
>because activism is something that does not belong on 4chan

You say that but /b/, /v/, and /pol/ have done these kinds of things for years. It's just that outside of Chanology they didn't get nearly as much attention or a convenient name to label them.

In fact /pol/ and /b/ maybe are still at it.
>>
>>413154
>>413160
Chanology was NOT allowed on here. Since 2006, all kinds of invasions or raids were banned, so they were coordinated in IRC and on other image boards.

/pol's/ happenings are an entirely different thing. They don't encompass the posting of personal information etc. so they can't be defined as invasions. On /b/, the mods only turn a blind eye if it's an innocent raid like Habbo Hotel, when /b/tards decide to send birthday cards to a world war II veteran, or when they're trying to find the guy who abused a cat.
>>
>>413168
>They don't encompass the posting of personal information etc. so they can't be defined as invasions.
Gamergate did not encompass the posting of personal information.
>>
>>413177
It did though, especially in the beginning. I know because I was there.

Some of the harassment and accusations were coordinated in IRC by a few anons, so gamergate definitely fell under rule 4.
>>
>>413168
>Since 2006, all kinds of invasions or raids were banned

You said 'activism' and 'movements', not raids. There's been plenty of that since 2006.

>They don't encompass the posting of personal information etc
You didn't have that here either. The old archive is up again now, so unless you can show where that happened, I don't know where that comes from
>>
>>412772
Anime is a niche nerdy hobby, so yeah. Unless you think Moot had dual-personality or a doppelganger, 4chan was the spawn of a subforum dedicated to anime and a Japanese imageboard software.

My problem with /r9k/, /pol/, and to an extent /v/ is that they bring in angry, impotent who actually get a thrill being able to engage in heated condemnation and subterfuge of things they hate. I have nothing against them in principal, just the kind of people who seek out these boards.

/r9k/ brings in people who are not just asocial, which is expected of 4chan's demographics, but actively antisocial. /pol/ brings in people who base a good chunk worldview being against something, and who prefer nothing but passively-agressively campaigning against whoever displeases them on the basis of their existence (not the Neo-nazis, as much as the people who just continuously bring up the garbage of modern society on a daily basis, for no other purpose besides feel-good condemnation). /v/, unfortunately, attracts people whose primary hobby is too general and accessible to have the same exclusions as other boards. /a/ and /co/ also share this problem, but /v/ users happen to be attracted to /pol/ and /r9k/ more so than the former two.

The thing is, that while the weeaboos, the musicfags, the litfags, the /tg/ users, etc. All seek to escape to their own little world on 4chan and make their own little scene, /v/, /pol/, and /r9k/ just want to rage against the outside world, and collectively affect it if they can.
>>

>>
>>413182
>It did though, especially in the beginning. I know because I was there.
No, it didn't. I know because I was there.

Initially, people just wanted to get the word out that a Kotaku writer was fucking someone whose game he promoted. So initially it was about discussing it. There was no raiding going on. By the time it was banned the only thing they were doing was sending e-mails to advertisers.
>>
>>413215
>as a movement, can be defined as an invasion, since it was aimed at video game journalism

No one is invading anything though, they're just talking about it, gathering information, and people are free to do whatever they want with that information. Just like any other board except a bit more organized.

'GamerGate' had already been going on on /v/ for years, it just didn't have a name yet.

>>413250
>'GamerGate' had already been going on on /v/ for years, it just didn't have a name yet.
And then a bunch of fuckwits decided that they needed a named social movement that should viral itself in both social and traditional media, evangelize itself across both 4chan and the internet, because they were truly madly deeply offended that a video game developer fucked a video game reviewer (thereby propelling the game to untold heights of newfound popularity), and got the whole thing banned.

Good job, retards.
>>
>>413250
Sure, but back then it wasn't a coordinated hivemind movement yet.

The people who doxed, harassed, and instigated the attacks are a part of this movement. That's why it was banned as a whole, and not just the anons who decided to effectively go after these people. It doesn't matter whether it was condemned by everyone else. There's no actual way to contain this kind of stuff, as a lot of it happened in IRC and tiny-chat. As I said, a huge and collective movement like this does not belong on 4chan, and it never did.

>>413249
Some people did dox and raid, as anons naturally would. I saw it happen in a tiny-chat that was linked on /b/ and other boards, a collective raid against Zoe Quinn. Some anons even called Quinn's family. Not to mention Zoe Quinn's porn pictures that were posted everywhere.

GamerGate was bad and gets all the attention - and I believe it should - but The Fappening is so often overlooked. 4chan is completely immune to being called shitstains or faggots or being told to kill themselves or being compared to Hitler or ISIS or being called wastes of space or being told to get off of 4chan. "Meanie" and "Problematic" however just triggers the FUCK out of 4chan. They can't stand being called a "butthead". They hear it and go, "haha what?" at first, but then the second time they hear it they're like, "Why does this keep happening? Stop it! MODS!" That's why "cuck" had meaning for a little while. It was new. It bothered people because their brain hadn't built up defenses for it. 4chan can't handle being called things like "jerk" or "rude" or "racist" or "pedophile" or anything else like that. It just kills them to be called something they rarely get called.
>>
>>414061
>It just kills them to be called something they rarely get called.

No, the idea is that people get called like that everywhere else on the internet and in the world. 4chan has always been counter-culture, so accepting this element of politically correct moralfaggotry and normalfaggotry just turns it into another normal site. It's the attitude behind those words that shit up the place.

C.uck is a different thing, it's just that the word was pushed so much and so suddenly. It's like if one day you started seeing people use the word 'bodacious' to describe everything in every thread, people would find it weird. Words like 'problematic' or 'poopyhead' are red-flags for sensitive carebears, they're not disliked for the same reason c.uck spam was.

Truly 4chan is everything bad in he world.

About /s4s/, what influence does it really have? The board is slow as fuck and I suspect that most people who pretend to be /s4s/ outside that board are mostly unrelated shitposters that deserve to get permaban.

Not that I do like /s4s/ that much, but I can get behind the style of posting from time to time, the problem is that it is containment board and with them they'll always be crossboarding retards who don't get the joke and spill it everywhere where it doesn't belong, shitting up the whole site.
>>
>>414260
swaglord runs it. And swaglord is their mod along with /tv/'s. swaglord has instigated raids on /qa/ almost three different times already, because "Its to spread fun". Meaning he hates /qa/ we call him and his buddies out for being fuckups.
>>
>>414263
Okay, delete the board as long as it's being used like that, invading with shitposts shouldn't be tolerable, though I don't have much against meta/ironic shitposting board by itself.
>>
>>414267
/s4s/ should have been deleted to begin with. It was a joke board moot kept around because he thought the board wasn't harming anyone. Instead over time it got worse and worse. /tv/ needs to go at this point. Its a normie/Redditor/Meme board now. You can throw in /r9k/ as well. That board brings in the worst people. Fuck a mass murderer posted on /r9k/. That should have been enough for Hiro to fucking delete. moot would have.

Problem is, I don't think Hiro wants to delete boards, and that is an issue he needs to understand: Sometimes you have to delete boards because they are either too cancerous to save or they are causing harm to the site.
>>
>>414272
Posts like this are why this board needs to be deleted, and why /q/ was deleted.
>>
>>414273
Hello mod
>>
>>414272
Yeah, the legacy of /s4s/ as joke board was known to me, thought it seems like the way it's being run is more of a problem than that content self.

As for /r9k/, I've been vising it more lately, I quite enjoy it for a few kinds of threads that has to do with me general retardation, but most of the posts are cesspool of shit, /soc/, roasties, pepe, femanon threads, tumblr content, trans, traps, wagecuck and general /pol/ crap. I'd probably enjoy it more if it was transformed to semi-wiz, but I guess that would defeat the purpose of the board.
>>
>>414290
/r9k/ has no purpose other than to be a shit board. Same with /s4s/, but that's for irony.
>>
>>414293
Yeah, it's a board without any topic, but it doesn't mean that it actually doesn't have its disctinctive culture/topic within it, just because something isn't defined itself it doesn't mean there isn't anything defined/defineable within it, I like some parts of it, most of it's garbage though.

And /s4s/ could work as a meta/irony joke board, but I'd probably spill over anyway.

Maybe back in 2005 this was ok, but its not now when you consider just how badly 4chan is getting. No one wants to have fun with the mods anymore, they just want them to do their jobs
>>

Yea, no, you can kill yourself. Most people want to have fun with the admin and mods, retard.

Yea, no, most people want Hiro make 4chan good again and tell the mods to do their jobs, like fixing /v/ for one

4chan isn't for fun posting dumbass.

Fuck off and leave this site now you cunt. You are destroying this site.

>4chan isn't for fun posting dumbass
hownew.ru

4chan IS for fun, moron. It's for discussion of anime and niche hobbys while not being overly serious and having fun. 4chan isn't for shitposting, but it sure as hell isn't for being 100% dead serious and apparently you've completely missed the point, fuckface. If you want /v/ fixed so badly, why don't you just go self-moderate it yourself? If you cared so much about it and the site, you'd surely being willing to spend the effort it takes.

The issue with insults like "butthead", "problematic", and "cuck", is that they say more about the person using them than the person they're being directed at. Not in the "the one who says idiot is the idiot, idiot" sense, but in the sense that there are terms that are only used as insults by certain kinds of people.

If I see someone use "cuck" as an insult I usually assume they came to 4chan within the last four years, post in or are sympathetic to /pol/ and Gamergate, and think moot is a huge faggot. If I see someone use the word "problematic" will assume they're either an SJW or sympathetic to such people, and spend lots of time being progressive on the internet. (Are these guaranteed to be correct? Not necessarily, but let's face it: some of these words are tribal indicators.)

And that pisses people off. I don't care if somebody tells me to check my privilege because I'm offended that somebody has pointed out that I live a life that may be better than various other people's lives through no particular effort of my own - I'm offended that a privilege checker has decided to make their obnoxious presence known in "my board."

Why? How is it different from 'fag' or 'nigger' other than you can actually use it outside of 4chan with impunity?

But moot IS a huge faggot, and not in an endearing way. Most of the reasons 4chan is shit right now are his fault.

if you think him bringing the hammer down on activist fagets makes him a fag get out.

I love how the "activism" meme only started when Gamergate started. It's definitely legitimate and not offsite raiders trying to spin a new narrative.
>>
>>415506
it started when anonymoose leegun brought a bunch of keyboard warrior social media addled children to the site. get your facts straight.
>>
>>415521
I agree. We had people bitching about "Activism" and "Moralfags" and stuff like that back with Chanology when Something Awful proved how fragile and manipulatable our ecosystem was.

>Video games are a multibillion dollar industry

And Zoe's game was freeware.
You could have directed all that effort at EA or Ubisoft or anyone that actually mattered, but no. You had to be the victims for once instead of those SJWs, and when nobody took you seriously it just reinforced the idea that you were persecuted

Nathan Grayson didn't even write a review of her game. He briefly mentioned it in a list of indie games before they commenced a relationship. Whoop de doo. Gamergate gave her and Sarkeesian more exposure than anything in recent memory.

This. I'm so sick of being called a Social Justice Warrior for being anti-Gamer Gate. I'm anti-gamergate because I agree with it and I know that Gamergate is taking entirely the wrong approach to accomplishing their goals. None of them know what they're doing. They're HELPING all of the people they dislike. I had no fucking idea who Zoe Quinn was before Gamergate, and guess what! She has a job right now. Way to fucking go, guys! You sure STOPPED her!

>The Scientology protests were way worse.

No, they were filled with hilarity and they did actually have a good cause (and carried out that cause in the most hilariously autistic way possible)

Gamergate was a thinly veiled far-right wing movement at attacking anybody who dared criticize video games on a social, philosophical, text, or academic level simply because /v/ loves it's outrage culture and was easy to hijack by groups with actual interests. Look at how many on 4chan now suck the dick of Milo, an insanely misogynistic, racist, self hating gay man who looks like a bad 80s movie villain, because something to do with video game journalism and free speech even though Gamergate is clearly a movement to censor criticism.

Gamergate was tedious and at it's worse (which 99% of it was), completely reactionary and anti-intellectual, Chanology was cringy but funny.
>>
>>416483
you SJWs have some strange ideas about what gamergate was.

Reminder that the mods are SJW shills.
And, hell, the problem isn't men and women discussing about games, it's that one grupo (SJW) is forcing their views on other people's works. Do you think being a dev and receiving death threats because you didn't included a token black transgender otherkin character is funny or mature?

Before the cuck explosion, for some reason, I always had it in my head that "cuckold" was a very old (and typically not used in modern lingo, but in classic novels like Wuthering Heights or something). And yeah, I thought it meant "to hold someone in a warm embrace". I don't know how I had that wrong for so long.

/v/ still hates Gone Home and considers it "not a game", even though the logic of that is one of things that led to GG.

So I don't know how they can claim to disinherit it.

It had very little to do with /pol/.

It had more to do with 8gag, twitter, and a breitbart clickbait writer named Milo.
