It's federally legal in America, I think. And it's legal in California and a number of other states. But it's also pretty illegal in some states like Utah. Which is kind of funny because that state has Mormons. It has so much legal grey area involved it's not even funny, not even lawyers really know exactly what the fuck is going on.
Like obscenity laws are a thing apparently, but that law doesn't just apply to porn I guess? I don't know, I gave up trying to understand the law to be honest.

With a good enough lawyer nothing is illegal. With a bad enough police force and judge, everything is. You can go to jail for things that aren't illegal. You can get away with things that are. The law is flexible and created by humans.
You're going to need to check where you live to determine if something is or isn't illegal there. There is not a single thing that is illegal everywhere under every circumstance. Even murder simply requires you to get a license to perform it in many places.
