I have some 8gag questions that I was hoping to have answered.

I have some 8gag questions that I was hoping to have answered.

1) Why do 8gag users dislike 4chan with such intensity?
2) Is traffic there actually declining?
3) Is there anything about 8gag that's preferable over 4chan?
>>
I've got a question of my own. What is this Viper meme? I keep seeing these low quality images of some black guy with Viper and some words poorly edited on. What's this all about?
>>
Why don't you ask there?
>>
>>393374
3) Just look through this board. Whenever someone asks for a feature and gets responded to with "back to 8gag," that's something useful 8ch has but 4chan doesn't.
>>
>>393388
Those are all completely useless features as well

sour grapes

>1) Why do 8gag users dislike 4chan with such intensity?

They feel disillusioned and/or betrayed by moot and the mods, and now claim to hate them and everyone here who don't feel the same.

In reality they probably weren't here for very long and/or still post here.

>2) Is traffic there actually declining?

According to their own publicly viewable statistics, it is. Those in charge admit the site is barely functional right now, hence their rush to upgrade into a new version of the imageboard software that ironically is also barely functional.

>3) Is there anything about 8gag that's preferable over 4chan?

That depends on whether you consider the features they offer to be "preferable". The ones most often touted are the ability to create your own boards, .webms with sound enabled everywhere, and the ability to upload multiple pictures per post.

Personally I find more than one picture per post to be aesthetically repulsive, and the ability for anyone to create boards has resulted in mostly stillborn creations because traffic is too spread out to form substantial userbases, so the only boards that end up surviving are either chan staples that can exist anywhere (/v/, /b/, /pol/) or circlejerks.

That leaves .webms with sound as the only "preferable" feature, but it mostly seems to amount to just reposting Youtube videos, which can already be embedded here so it's not that different.

A working captcha

>Personally I find more than one picture per post to be aesthetically repulsive,

You're fucking retarded. 4chan has always been about function over form. Multi-image posts are nothing but an improvement over what we already have.
>>
>>393439

>4chan has always been about function over form.

It's done a decent job of accomplishing both, I think. I find 4chan's design quite visually pleasing in a minimalist kind of way, and I'm pretty sure moot felt the same about it. Cluttering that up with as many as ten pictures per post ruins it, it makes it look like a porn site with ads jammed in to fit every square inch of screen space.

Plus, multiple pictures arguably enhances little in terms of functionality either. It would be useful if you were storytiming manga or comics I guess, but people mostly just use it to post multiple reaction images all at once.
>>
>>393439
There is no fucking need for multi-image posting. Images are a extension of a post, this isn't a fucking image dumping ground. Plus, you'll only end up tripling the server usage and bandwidth. Are you going to pay for that nigger

If you love your stupid pointless feature so much, why don't you just fuck back off to 8gag instead of trying to make change that's not needed here. You stupid retard
>>
>>393439
I literally miss out on reading other's comments because of how ackward and clunky they're laid out behind multiple-non-thumbnail images. That's not function at all.
>>
>>393469
how is that sour grapes?

The fox can't reach the grapes. Anyone who wants to use 8gag can just type out the address. What makes you think this metaphor works?
>>
>>393374
You shouldn't lump everyone into the same crowd like that.

8gag HAD potential, but the owner fucked it up. The idea of user created boards was half-baked and he didn't listen to any of the communities ideas on how to turn it into what it should have been. As it stands 8ch is really a build-your-own-imageboard site with disconnected communities rather than its own coherent community.

A lot of us gave it a try at one point because it had potential, as I said, but came back here.
There is still 1 board I use over there for its community and users, but it's a small one. So it's not like you have 8ch users vs 4chan users by any means.

The site is absolute shit though, in every possible meaning of the word, and the future migration to their new site will be the final nail in the coffin for me.

The only good thing about it was only requiring 1 captcha to be entered for 24 hours of posting.

What do you think he should have done?

>>393507
>the future migration to their new site will be the final nail in the coffin for me
That seems shortsighted.
>>
>>393501
For whatever reason, good or bad (one good reason would be the performance of 8ch going to shit), they're posting on a site where you not only can't reach the grapes, but the apple has been locked away. And saying how much better it is to not have them as an option.
>>
>>393381
Not even vip quality/10
>>
>>393439

It would only be suitable for an image dumping board like /wg/ or /s/. Anywhere else its pointless, distracting, and ugly.

>The catalog isn't flooded with SJW tier bait, and any political bulllshit that does show up is still related to video games.

I'm doubtful of that assertion because what I've seen of 8gag /v/ would suggest otherwise. Politics and vidya don't mix.
>>
>>393770
All of this
>>

The 8ch community also operates on Tumblr levels of echo chamber wherein anyone who offers a dissenting opinion will get drowned out in a white noise of speshual terminology and vitriol.

>What do you think he should have done?
Anything to make it more of a unified community, or at least to unify specific boards.

People had all sorts of ideas to link boards together giving them the equivalent of "front pages" or whatever.
That comment wasn't about the boards themselves just the communities, like I said, right now it's more like each board is its own disconnected entity.

>That seems shortsighted.
Perhaps. But it's a sentiment I share with just about everyone on the 8ch boards I find even remotely acceptable. Nobody likes its web 2.0 style.
On top of that the guy writing the code seems like a total piece of shit that I would rather have nothing to do with.

I agree with this, but this sort of thing was tough to do with the old software where every board was in a separate table. The new software will make this sort of thing much easier, and there's already an overboard feature where you can see an index containing threads from all boards at once.

>Perhaps. But it's a sentiment I share with just about everyone on the 8ch boards I find even remotely acceptable. Nobody likes its web 2.0 style.

This is kind of vague. If it's just the looks that are the problem, board owners will be tweaking that to their desires with custom CSS.

The biggest issue I see is that the frontend isn't finished yet. Many basic features such as thread hiding and image hover aren't implemented yet. But they will be soon.

>1) Why do 8gag users dislike 4chan with such intensity?
They consider moot a SJW becaused he stopped allowing discussion of [a certain video game related "protest movement" which may or may not still be filtered] on /v/ after it became about doxxing and getting mad at feminists and SJWs rather than anything video game journalism related. Therefore, 4chan is SJW cancer to them. That, and 4chan is overpopulated, while they consider their website "underground". So basically because of hipster contrarianism and butthurt over GG related stuff.
>2) Is traffic there actually declining?
Probably, since that website only got popular because of the whole GG thing combined with the pretentiousness of its userbase and admin.
>3) Is there anything about 8gag that's preferable over 4chan?
The ability to upload multiple images, mp4s, and sound webms is pretty nice. The custom board + board owner system is kind of cool too, if you want a board on a very specific topic (kind of like a subreddit, funnily enough). That website's moderation is also way more tolerant of pedophilia, if you're a sick fuck.
>>
>>393374
1. Because 4chan banned Gamergate discussion
2. No idea
3. Fucking sound webms.
