/who/ is trying to rid itself of a particularly odious tripfag after he made this childish, butthurt image in response to being banned for breaking rules, but he just won't fuck off or drop his trip and now every time he posts there's a huge, thread-derailing backlash because people can't just ignore him.

Hey hiro, I know you're reading this thread. I come here to request the implementation of "uppost" and "downpost" system. This will give the users an option to see only the most thoughtful posts and not get get bothered by shitposting. The option would be called "sort by upposts". Other users will uppost the posts depending on how they think the quality of the post is. This will improve posting quality a lot. Trust me.

>>
>>392419
I think it's fair to say most people came to 4chan and started posting on /b/, but grew out of it as they matured or at least got bored

there might be some happenings, when I last was on /b/ in around 2012 the usual rule of fishing for gold in a septic tank still applied, and you could find a couple instances of anynoums delivering per day

since then it was either overrun by newfigs who don't know how to /b/ cause nobody taught them to, or everyone is just reluctant to post shit from /b/ ITT because of a hostile reaction we might have to their person

When I was a /b/tard I never really grasped what people meant by cultural shift, and how /b/ has changed. Not for not being long enough, I just couldn't recall how it was before, so I saw people in 2011 saying how great it was in 2008, and me, having been here since 2007 didn't notice that much of a change.

How do people realize? The only thing i noticed is how shitposty /mu/ got.

But this is different. This is a current thread on /b/. What the fuck is this, the first three replies are "don't do it", and it takes a while for someone to say "do it faggot".
Since when is /b/ like this? it looks like a normal nsfw forum
>>
>>392652
Somewhere between Chanology and 2010, getting gradually worse since then tbhfam.

It's nothing but a porn board right now, which is why some people suggested the creation of a /wsb/.
>>
>>391091
>non nsfw

tripfags are really dumb
>>
>>392652
/b/ has been a normalfag for a few years. The last time I used it was in 2012 I think? It was mostly porn, but it still had a shitton of original shit coming out of it regularly. But, now its just a normalfag den were pretty much every thread is porn and most 'oc' is just reposts, more then how it was years ago.

People who say that popularity and high posting speed is the death of 4chan actually have a good reason for saying that.
>>
>>392673
This guy gets it, bigger the board, shittier it is, unless you pull an /a/ and make it nazi moderated, which works for a price
>>
>>392688
the other day I went into /a/ and it did not uphold its newfag-bashing reputation. Has it ceased being that way?

I mean all across the board, but specially in OPM threads, in which it's no surprise, I guess its getting lots of new traffic

>>
>>392732
Since everyone stopped expecting /b/ to be something the place has become practically drama-less. Go to the thread you want and do what you want, nobody cares.

The only thing /b/ gets upset about is when you ban a user for non-rule 1 reasons or delete their threads. They are pretty hard on a "do what you want" notion of freedom of speech

That's the fear but no one really knows for sure. I'm too scared to log in now. From what I've heard it sounds as if it switches accounts any time a user does ANYTHING. I've also heard that some people manage to draw Admin accounts which could be really disastrous.

Are we really going to do this again? /a/ isn't allowed to post porn. /a/ is only allowed to post official lewd content for non-hentai shit. Which most of the time is ecchi, like Tsugumomo or To love-ru. Not allowing image posting of these would be stupid, since the lewd content is a core part of the series. There isn't official porn for that shit and if there is, it probably amounts to the number of fingers on my hands

>not allowing image posting of these would be stupid, since the lewd content is a core part of the series
>>
>>393468
I don't see any of those boards actually fighting for the right to post that content either. Using /v/ as your example is just stupid as well. /tv/ would of been a better choice, because if you allowed that on /v/, it /would/ become /b/2.0 because the rule would quickly be twisted to allow actual porn

The nsfw rule is only there to stop porn dumping, but most of the other boards have incredibly immature userbases and if you give them an inch for this sort of thing and they'll take a yard and quickly make their board drown in porn as they don't really care

>>

It is not. Hiro said 4chan's purpose is to "create culture", whatever that is.
>>
>>393477
It is, that's what they site was made for. It doesn't fucking matter what stupid newfags want to think in their deluded offended minds. Hiros opinion on what the sites 'purpose' is means fucking nothing until he actually fucking uses the place as well. The was also a offhand comment based on his interpretation on falsehoods reported by the media
>>
Do people in other forums dicuss site architecture, moderation, etc so much?
Do communities in other forums influence this much the decisions? Because I hear news about forum mods being draconian or batshit insane (fast eddie, the ED guy, thy xkcd guy) and then I come here where for 12 years moot basically went with the flow, occasionally lashing out when he had to much, and even then he backed off from very important decisions because people didn't like them.

Not a complaint, I like bitching about content and moderation too, but I feel like everybody (me included) talks as if they owned significant a part of 4chan, and wonder how this would hold anywhere else. It's no surprise moot sold it to Hiro, as he seems to be that kind of "carried by the flow" guy, albeit one with a business vision.
>>
>>393480
Not everybody discuss meta subjects because they think they can change anything, only newfag idiots seriously believe that, some people just like to discuss those subjects for knowledge sake, because its interesting, and as chaotic as it may be, you can still find some legit good arguments about it around here, you don't see that happening in other forums because the community isn't as self aware as our community, and its not like they care anyway, all they care about is talking about shit without giving a fuck about the website's quality because this is what mods are for in the first place

But this isn't the thread for this and people really need to stop derailing the it everytime someone makes a comment about something, or at least to keep their shit under control, or else these threads will die
>>
>>393480
Back when I used gameFAQs for anything but the FAQs, there was a lot of complaining and circlejerking about specific mods. Most of it was bullshit about them allowing certain discussion or disallowing some other discussion that a majority wanted to talk about on a specific board, but I never participated in it myself since I only ever went to a handful that already covered whatever I wanted to discuss.

>>
>>394408
That's a good edit for a different argument but it's still not relevant to the point I made, what I was saying is that making new sections of a website and thus expanding its focus =/= the site turning shit due to new users, and that since the site has expanded its focus it makes no sense to make decisions as if it is focused on its original topic.
>>394413
Or maybe it just looked like someone with very little thought put into their argument was trying to use an irrelevant comic to make their argument for them rather than actually making a cohesive argument on the topic themselves, that's fully possible isn't it?
>>394417
>can completely destroy threads due to how true they are
Truly your comics are enlightening, m'good m'sir! Next time I'll make sure to remember that if the point you're trying to make with a shitty comic is irrelevant or illogical it's likely just my fault for not understanding 'the truth.'
>>
>>394440
The site expanding to cater to more topics potentially brings new users that don't want to take the time to adapt to our culture because they think it's like every other forum, and this is especially dangerous at a time in 4chan's history where internet culture is mainstream and is chaotically being used all over the site by newfags who are creating a culture around ironic shitposting. I'm not the poster of the comic, but this is not a difficult concept to understand.

>m'good m'sir

Stop ironically memeposting like a child as if it makes you seem like you matter more on an Anonymous image board.
>>
>>394449
And that would be a fair point if /b/ didn't exist largely as the shitting grounds for the vast majority of newfags. The implication that the addition of boards is the reason for 4chan's decline in overall quality is pants on head retarded.
>>
>>394440
>and that since the site has expanded its focus it makes no sense to make decisions as if it is focused on its original topic.
There was never a focus expansion. A good portion of the boards were splits from /b/ to give weebposters a place to talk about nonweeb things without the inane bullshit /b/ brings. Japshit has continued to be the sites main focus and that shouldn't change. The only people who don't like that are newfags or people who get upset by it. The japshit and japculture is something that helped make the site so appealing in its old days. It should stay the main focus and the site should stay focused on being a nerdy hobbiest board steeped in japcultureshit and not become a site no different to the rest of the internet because people want to just shitpost
>>
>>394455
You're missing the point of WHY people came to a unique place like 4chan and why they might start out at an extreme point like /b/, because it was different and attracted a certain mindset of people who could stand and work with its culture. I might not be following whatever original argument you were having with that other poster, but you have to keep this factor in mind, and understand that things have changed and there is indeed a difference between /b/ and new topical boards in terms of the new users that go to them. The former corresponding to what I mentioned above, and the latter corresponding (potentially in today's climate of internet culture and with the major broadening of the site's topical focus) to what I mentioned in >>394449 - you just have to be careful.
>>
>>394455
>The implication that the addition of boards is the reason for 4chan's decline in overall quality is pants on head retarded.
It did, because it contributed to the sites growing population. /b/ might of been the newfag pot, but the newfags left that pot because they saw other boards with a topic they liked and then proceed to shit on them while ignoring that boards culture

It doesn't fucking matter if a boards main focus isn't japshit. The sites main existence is for japshit and its culture is full of japshit. You don't need fucking 50 fucking boards for 1 topic, the majority of the boards aren;t for japshit, because it was all concentrated into a few boards, because thats how the users like it. If the users didn't like that, the majority of the boards would of been jap boards. The sites main focus is for japshit, if you don't like that stop fucking using the site. Not him, but you are really exaggerating. Reaction images and people flipping shit just because they're anime despite anime reaction images being posted on most boards since forever is much different from blatant shitposting and the influence it has had directly on post quality and on how people respond to offensive posts on the site.
