Officially or unofficially?

Any translated VN goes in /vg/.
Have you ever read the fucking board rules? Here. Try ctrl+f 'Visual Novel' and see what happens.

>This is the appropriate board for the discussion of Japanese visual novels and light novels. Western visual novels should be posted to /vg/, and translated visual novels are fine on either board.

It's one of those pretend rules fabricated by /jp/. Just ignore it.

Those Oreimo threads were lets-plays by a regular anon. Personally, if the VN has choices or some form of gameplay, I don't see a problem with it being on /v/.
The actual application of the rules for VNs is inconsistent. I think everybody can agree that kinetic-vns don't belong on /v/, and most people agree that ones with puzzles or genuine-gameplay, like Danganronpa or 999, do belong on /v/. But what about ones with just choices? Games like Dear Esther and Gone Home have neither gameplay nor choices, only walking and maybe being able to read a few notes, but they're allowed on /v/. A VN with choices has more interaction than those games, yet the VNs aren't allowed. Another example would be the modern TellTale games. In those, you walk around, choose between x or y, and do a few simple QTEs. Does that qualify for being on /v/? And those choices don't even matter, unlike in a lot of VNs.

In general "I don't see a problem with it being on /v/" and "It's a video game" don't matter. Life is Strange threads caused a tremendous shitstorm for being not vidya. Gone Home is considered Not Vidya.
Rules are made to try to keep the board from eating itself alive.

What about Fate?

Either way, if you want to talk about translated VNs make a new thread for them, because the existing VN thread in /jp/ is mostly concerned on latest releases in Japan. An influx of people talking about 8 year old translated releases just disrupts discussion.
