why doesn't 4chan have a consumerism board to review and discuss recent purchases
>>
Because 4chan already has enough pointless boards.
>>
>wanting shilling: the board
Dumb /q/poster.
>>
>>>/g/
>>
>>377475
>implying shilling doesn't happen anyway
>implying i want a shill board
>>
We should just make a shill board so that /v/ and /g/ can go full nazi on their own garbage threads
>>
>>377459
It's called /g/.

>>377475
/q/ doesn't exist anymore.

>>377459

Individual boards have topic specific product discussions, /diy/ have 3D print, power tool and test gear threads, /p/ have their lens and body threads, /o/ have their wheel, engine and accessory threads. I'm sure other hobby specific boards have the same.

At best, a consumer board will be a bunch of people trolling on stuff they know nothing about (Apple shills talking smack on Samsung TV's because natural enemy, consolefags shitting up PC thread regardless of the topic or hardware under discussion), at worst it will be thread after thread of "DIAF SHILL FGT" despite the board being the designated shilling street.

TL;DR, No, it's a terrible idea.

you really think i haven't thought that far? do you not understand the real purpose that such a board would be used for?
>>
>>377597
>Hey guys! I just bought xyz and it's the greatest thing ever! Seriously, you can buy one for yourself at the link below, it's only $19.99 and it's worth a shot, trust me on this one.

Even if it wouldn't be /shill/ the board, it'd still be the fucking easiest thing in the world to bait.
>>
>>377597
Clearly we don't because the entire threads disagrees with you so far. So how about instead of getting defensive, you act like an adult who is capable of holding a discussion, and state your point?
>>
Because you already have Facebook for that.
We are still trying to keep a decent average IQ in this site when possible.

/g/ is not a consumerism board, it is a technology board that has been taken over by consumers and their shitty tangentially related technology "discussions"

consumertards have turned the board to shit with their garbage platform wars, facebook machines and other pleb shitposts
>>
>>377566
>muh "IT AINT /q/!!!!!!!" buttblasted argument
Nice maymay. Stop posting now.
>>
>>377566
>/q/ doesn't exist anymore.
doesn't mean you co-opt our board to whine dumb /q/shitter
>>
>>377581
You're right, a general "consumer" board is a terrible idea. Instead, what we need is a board specifically for consumer electronics, since it's one of the most discussed topics on /g/, as well as one that irks a vocal minority of the userbase.

>>377798
Consumer electronics are technology. Since /g/ has so many butthurt programmers and Linux ricers however, I propose that /g/ be split. There could be a board to discuss programming, comp sci, and other such topics, and there could be a board to discuss things like GPUs and smartphones.

>>377803
>pronouncing "meme" as "maymay"
*shot*

>>377807
Guess what? That's what this board has become, and the mods haven't done a damn thing about it. Why? Because that's what this board is for now. It may not be official, but it is what it is.
>>
>>377829
Consumer electronics are technology, shitty recommendation threads and dumb tech support questions are not, and are expressly against the board rules anyway. Technology is a cancerous enough interest without consumertards asking retarded questions about what overpowered facebook machine they should use to watch porn in bed.

> I propose that /g/ be split
It's too small for that, even OP's idea is kind of stupid, they just need to crack down on shitposting.

There's really nothing wrong in wanting to discuss shitty gaming hardware or tablets or whatever cancerous dumb shit they want to talk about, it's that their off-topic shitposting, baiting and flame wars they start over it and other stupid shit have enveloped the board to the point that those of us who are actually interested in a real discussion can barely find jack shit that isn't some stale circlejerk general or meme thread to discuss in.

And no, the mods forgetting about the board does not make it your personal blog. This place is basically a blue /b/, but it doesn't mean we're all going to get down and suck your dick for making shitty whiny posts demanding action from a moderation team that doesn't even care about this board anymore, let alone the site.
>>
>>377863
Why do people get all worked up about blogposts anyway? Personally I enjoy reading them.
>>
>>377863
Also, even though tech support and recommendations threads are supposedly against the rules ("/g/ is NOT your personal tech support team or customer review site"), I argue that they are in fact technology related topics. The antisocial neckbeards that populate /g/ just don't want to help people out, and they let the rules reinforce this. This is fine, let them have their own board to circlejerk over their i3 configurations or whatever. Meanwhile, I'd like to see a board for useful tech-related content like *shock**horror* tech support and product recommendations threads.

Will this happen? Considering people's attitudes here, probably not. At least I have sites like Reddit and Stack Exchange. The problem with these sites? YOU CAN'T BUMP YOUR FUCKING POSTS. Reddit would be 10000x better if threads could be bumped. But that's irrelevant, 4chan is not Reddit, and I like it that way. Reddit has awful features and a very circlejerky community as it is, though I do occasionally get helpful advice on there.

I guess I just don't like how shallow and show-offy they are, it's all about money and maximizing consumption to them, rather than the technology itself. And the subjects themselves are just... boring. Lots of lame mid-range consumer gaming builds in ugly cases, identical smartphones that really differ only in numbers on a chart, facebook-tier normalfags bragging about their shitty ultrabook or tablet that they squander on media consumption and web surfing.

I probably sound pretentious as fuck, but whatever. Consumer technology just doesn't excite me anymore, and everyone is just so fucking bitter about it now.

>>378231
Honestly, even if you look like a total dipshit, people will line up to help you, spoonfeed you, whatever. I don't really have too much of a problem with this as a whole, /g/'s anonymity makes it like no other community in that you can ask these stupid questions or make these stupid threads and even if you get shitposted to death, it's all over when the thread gets pruned and nobody will remember it. To want it all banned is unrealistic, I just wish we had more of a "lurk more" attitude with some of this shit, it's not that hard, for example, to go and look up the top 5 smartphones on the market, or find some template PC build to work off of, instead of taking over the board with more threads.

It also just feels like all of this shit is inviting more undesirables and memeposting gamertards onto the board, /g/ bait threads are just low-tier trash now and the board hasn't produced anything really super entertaining in years.
>>
We should just create a containment board for all that kind of shit. Ideally it wouldn't be anywhere on the site at all but that's just not happening. It's completely impractical.

We can roll /v/'s trash in there and call it /gcc/ - Gamer Culture and Consumerism. You wouldn't even have to moderat eit.

I just want a place where I can discuss consumer electronics and get advice and support. /g/ doesn't work for that, and reddit sucks shit. Is this really too much to ask?
>>
>>379986
consumer reports exists
>>
>>379999
Nigga plz. Do you really think they're going to give a shit about GBA flashcarts, custom phone ROMs, GPUs, Raspberry Pis, or anything else like that? I think not.
>>
>>378482
>I just wish we had more of a "lurk more" attitude with some of this shit, it's not that hard
It is when the board is mostly crossboarders with different backgrounds coming together on /g/ to shitpost.
Having all those generals up only clogs the board since those people will still make a new thread.
Few years ago you could sage/shitpost to death a thread, aka self-moderation, but it doesn't work anymore with current users/mods.
>>
>>382164
/g/ badly needs a generals board. The sad part is that people would probably think /gg/ is a gamergate board or some shit.
>>
>>381911
Uh, they talk regularly about them, except maybe for flashcarts which would work win /v/ or /vg/. Do you even go there?
>>
>>377459
That's what /g/ is.

>>377798
>/g/ is not a consumerism board
Yes it is.

/v/ is fucking cancer and so is /vg/
