Pretty much spot on. I actually believe /b/ is one of the most important boards on the site, as it's essentially 4chan's gateway board. A large chunk of the user base started out hearing about "lol b asshole of the internt".
/b/ has always been "shit", but in its current state, it's a different caliber of shit. It used to enforce lurkmoar culture which users generally carried over to whatever board they stumbled upon next. It's pretty much a NSFW facebook dumping ground now with the same stale garbage posted day in and day out.
The only way /b/ could begin to be salvaged is if the mods were allowed to go batshit crazy on the board and the CUHRAZEE css themes/music, video embeds and shenanigans returned. But since hiro is eternally afk and the mod team is seemingly burnt out on the userbase (i would be too), it's not going to change. 4chan has gone in a more mellow direction.

I think most people on /b/ don't understand that porn dumps have boards specific to them. Many of them think that /b/ is some kind of major h4ck0r place for gore and porn. I've seen people on /b/ claim that /b/ is the "only active board with discussion".
I blame meme sites like 9gag and knowyourmeme and shitty media pretending that Habbo raids are somehow important. Then again, most of the meme sites originated after 4chan leaked into other sites after /b/day. The fappening was also a major factor. People who came then stayed forever for the porn and don't even know about the actual porn boards.

Nono, I appreciate your insight. I think this is a major issue that affects not only /b/, but other boards as well, since /b/ is the gateway board. I just wish that there was something us lowly posters could do other than make OC, since that doesn't seem to interest anyone anymore.
On /v/ a week or so ago, someone started a thread about the Home Alone guy vs. Solid Snake. Best thread I'd seen on there for a year or so. It was ruined by the dozens of faggots spouting "REDDIT" at any chance they got. I don't hesitate in saying that these faggots have only stayed here for about a year, at max. And going back to the earlier post, mod/admin intervention can really help. People who don't do this place any good will leave after seeing how unstable it is, as a website. People already on here will tough it out, nothing can get them off the ride now. Newfags who are meant to stay with us won't be phased by it.
