Why does /a/ love Generals so much? I don't mean /a/ as a whole, but the people hanging out in Yuru Yuri, Madoka, Eva or One Piece Generals (just to name a few examples). Mods have tried several times to get rid of them but they always failed miserably.
If you like to dump pictures why not move to /c/? If you want to chat why not move to Rizon? What's the point of constantly bumping dead threads from pages 9 or 10?
I'm genuinely curious, I've been on /a/ since 2007 and I never understood the appeal of having open threads about the same anime/manga 24/7.
It's a ridiculously fast board so consolidating discussion for specific shows makes it a lot more manageable.

Yuri-related generals like YuYuYu or GochiUsa are babysitted by mods/troid. Try posting any NSFW content in one of these (it doesn't even have to be a picture, just a simple post like "I want to fuck X") and it will eventually get deleted. They are part of /a/'s culture now.

Didn't stop them getting purged around 2011. Would be really nice if we went back to that policy again. The board still feels the effect to this day as the word general and linking past threads in the OP is basically taboo a lot of the time.

Generals are pure cancer but what can you do about it? I've been warned for reporting Yuru Yuri generals (before the third season even aired and they were nothing but image dumps) and, like some other Anon said, some of them are babysitted by mods.
At this point there's nothing we can do and I personally stopped caring about the state of the board with mods like these. Can't be helped, pal.
