Let's discuss everything you'd change with 4chan that has nothing to do with adding/removing a board.

Change Titles:
>/x/ - Horror and the Paranormal
>/m/ - Mecha and Tokusatsu

Other Changes:
>captcha only appears once every 3-5 posts or so
>actually enforce Global Rule #3
>add the ability to automatically hide all replies to a post when you hide/filter a post
>allow users to embed links to /f/
>all WebMs now have sound, and the volume setting is saved across the site for each user
>allow doubles on all boards
>increase the file size cap to 4MB on all boards that have it lower
>add animated PNG support
>>
Remove rule 3
>>
remove recaptcha. why do i have to help google spy on houses, or help their ai develop, just in order to post? this place is like mechanical turk now only you don't get paid money, you just get to post. holy fuck how has this gone on for so long?
>>

I'd rather it just become sci-fi entirely so we can discuss Star Wars without people having to go "Is Star Wars /m/?"

I mean, we already do discuss it, this would just streamline things more.

It's late here, shut up. Still, why do you want to remove filters?
>>
>>346164
Because there is no point to them. For starters, they are contributing heavily to the growing general trend. Rather then calling things and people they don't like faggots, they hide in their generals for the few topics they care about, refuse to come out, and filter out everything else. Also any problems on the sites and bringing attention to it is normally responded to, 'lol just filter it'

The short version is, they fucking encourage people circlejerking and having echo boxes
>>
>>346187
It seems like you have more of a problem with generals than you do filters. I don't use them myself, but filters can help people who don't know how to ignore shit. If every other shitpost got even more responses then this site would be in an even worse state than it is now.

Remove generals. If people want to post in a normal forum thread go to a normal forum. Generals don't actually work here and need to be propped up by the creation of new boards, filters and the catalog. They undermine normal posting and disrupt the regular flow of a board.

The old method was to make a thread on a topic and you usually got a few posts, and maybe stirred up a real discussion on a focused idea, that thread then dies with the discussion and people move on to a different topic.

Now a single general sits on a board generating no new discussion or ideas. Endlessly circling the same focused topic without branching out or pulling from a wider userbase that and older style thread would attract. Any thread related to that topic is sent to the general instead. It generates echo chambers and circlejerking instead of ideas and new discussion.

Imageboards are best served with short rapid fire threads, and only if the discussion is interesting does it last for a long period.
>>
Ban anyone that posts on /co/, /v/ or /tv/ from posting on /a/

this, and ban /v/, /b/, /a/ and other crossboard shitposters from /g/
>>
>>347502
How would one go about removing generals?
>>
>>347502
>remove generals
>removing the only non-shitpost threads
>>
>>347519

One rule addition "Creation of a series of threads with the same topic in a short period of time or on a schedule may result in a ban"

Enforce it after roughly 4 threads, give or take a few. Loophole for threads with the creation of content (drawthreads mostly) could also be implemented
>>
>>347798

This could also cut down on "shill" threads and constantly remade shitposting threads
>>
>>347798
>>347821
How could you possible enforce this on faster boards like /v/ or boards focused on current shit like /pol/ and /sp/?
>>
>>346098
What general problem on /a/? The whole board is basically about the generals. Other threads only survive if they're worth posting in. Everything is perfectly the way we want it to be
>>
>>347882
>The whole board is basically about the generals
That's the problem, moron, generals are starting to become the only type of thread. As this anon here said >>347502 generals are bad. Posters these days have this constant need for always having a thread up for something they like, even if it serves no purpose other than it just being there for the sake of it. Nothing is perfect, the board is slowly decaying into nothing but circlejerking and faggotry

>Other threads only survive if they're worth posting in
You can't seriously believe this
>>
>>348354
>Posters these days have this constant need for always having a thread up for something they like, even if it serves no purpose other than it just being there for the sake of it.
This I agree with; using the thread system like your own interest-based chatroom is a problem.

>the board is slowly decaying into nothing but circlejerking and faggotry
Every interest board has had varying degrees of this throughout the years, /a/ is no different.

>>Other threads only survive if they're worth posting in
>You can't seriously believe this
Whatever the majority wants (that isn't against the rules) is worth posting in. Just because what you want isn't there doesn't mean it will be. See: Naruto threads.

>>Whatever the majority wants (that isn't against the rules) is worth posting in. Just because what you want isn't there doesn't mean it will be. See: Naruto threads.
No, my point there was that in modern times, outside of the generals, normally threads not worth posting in survive. See: Dub, CR, rec threads

If there is no general up, they will just shitpost somewhere else, just not enough to warrant a ban.
>>
>>348917
Don't give up, you're the reason everything sucks right now!
>>
>>348354
But generals on /a/ are almost always made when there's a new episode of a show. If we didn't have a general, there'd be tons of small threads about the same subject.

I don't recall anyone on /a/ not liking this system, it works perfectly fine there and if you don't like generals on /a/ it's probably because the topics of you threads are too uninteresting and shit to survive

Allow "hilo latino" on /mlp/
Allow australians to post on /mu/
Contain the dick threads on /soc/ to only one general.

Rename "/adv/ - Advice" to "/adv/ - Advice & Self-Improvement". Give space to life hacks and education.

Rename "/sci/ - Science & Mathematics" to "/sci/ - Science & Engineering". Invite the discussion of machines and engineering.

Rename "/po/ - Papercraft & Origami" to "/po/ - Puzzles & Origami". Give space for puzzles and crosswords along origami.

Rename "/vp/ - Pokémon" to "/vp/ - Virtual Pets". The community asks to include Digimons to revive its board.

Rename "/vr/ - Retro Games" to "/vr/ - Retro & Indie Games". /v/ has many problems and this helps in part.

>Rename "/vp/ - Pokémon" to "/vp/ - Virtual Pets". The community asks to include Digimons to revive its board.
Pokemon isn't a virtual pet in any way, shape or form. You're basically kicking out the original community. Hell, Digimon started as one, and barely is at this point
>Rename "/vr/ - Retro Games" to "/vr/ - Retro & Indie Games". /v/ has many problems and this helps in part.
What do indie and retro games have to do with eachother? Retro games are the least indie thing on the planet, and indie games are the least retro thing on the planet.
>>
>>349688
To add to the second one, it would make more sense to make /v/ the indie game board, and put recent licensed games in /vr/ since it's often the same old companies doing the licensed games. I think either option is fucking stupid though.

It makes more sense for /g/ to cover this, no?

Has the community asked for this specifically?
>Rename "/vp/ - Pokémon" to "/vp/ - Virtual Pets". The community asks to include Digimons to revive its board.
This I like. Although as >>349688 pointed out the name needs to be something other than 'Virtual' Pets.

I agree with >>349688 and >>349694 as in that is a shitty idea.
>>
>>349566

Flags on /int/ just encourage shitposting. If you're from Mexico, India, or whatever country has been deemed meme of the week, you can actually have a serious discussion because you'll just get spammed with "build wall xdddd" "DESIGNATED xddddddd" Plus, the flags on /pol/ just encourage threads that should belong on /int/ like "post flags from your cunt" or whatever.

I'm not a butthurt Indian or Mexican either, I'm an American.

That's a terrible idea because it would attract people who have no interest in Japanese/mecha related subjects to the board and would come to it solely to discuss science fiction. Tolerating occasional sci-fi discussion is fine, but officially endorsing it is a completely different thing.

Whoops I didn't see this thread so I created my own
Heres a buttload of bugs to add:
>/his/ and /trash/ don't have redirects from 4chan.org
>/news/ doesn't have one either, and has a naming conflict with http://www.4chan.org/news/
>blotter and note feature have the exact same functionality, and need to be merged
>http://www.4chan.org/japanese has not been updated since the site was first created and says site is under construction
>grouping of boards on https://www.4chan.org/frames is terrible, one group has like 50 links, and the other two groups have one link each (maybe sort it the same way as the homepage)
>not sure if nonoko still even works
>the archives are slow and painful to use
>there are two nearly identical forms for replying to threads, creating and replying to threads should exclusively be moved to the floating window, and the old moved to options or deleted
>long single word posts break scrolling on mobile
>replying and creating threads not very mobile friendly
>hard to click on board dropdown on smaller phones
>new captcha doesn't work / hard to use for some people (I haven't personally experienced any problems)
>failing captcha sometimes deletes entire post
>storing settings in cookie doesn't work for majority of posters who have them disabled/using incognito mode/using do not track mode
>playing too webms simultaneously sometimes causes bug with the [close] and reply links when closing one

New features which would be good:
>allow attaching image from link to online resource
>an alert should be added if a user has text typed and is attempting to leave the page
>create an option for a specific max dimensions for an image so huge images don't take up three pages (I know there is a setting similar to this but it would help if you could enter custom ones as fit screen is often still too big)
>add a live character count on the bottom of a post

Yap, it should be renamed to /new/.

wat?

Agreed, they could use a search feature like in the catalog. It gets quite laggy for boards like /v/ with over 14,000 dead threads, so it should be broken up into pages of 1,000 or so.

some other bugs:
>"Center threads" option doesn't work on Chrome
>Hyperlinks (the ones that appear when you have "Linkify URLs" enabled) will disappear if you click "Comment too long. Click here to view the full text." when viewing threads from the board index
>If a hyperlink is used in greentext, any additional text that appears on the same line will be non-green

A pointless change

>Why are you against users having a little choice to what they're exposed to?
It might be a good idea in theory, but in use its not. Outside of boards that are purely generals, it encourages and people do grow incredibly retarded mentalitys around them. A good example would be bringing up any problems now a days will normally result in a 'just filter it lol' as a response

If anything, the base 4chan design should be set back to how it was years ago, the inline extension by default turned off and by default require tweaking to set up. Early extensions was a hell in its own way and would help scare away a lot of the casual users who only come here to shitpost
