Has 2chan ever raided us?
>>
Yeah, on September 21 this year
>>
>>330302
>>330308
Would anyone even notice?
>>
>>330302
Few times, yeah. Usually fizzles out pretty quickly though, as watching a bunch of lazy assholes ask "What the fuck are these moonrunes? Someone google translate for me" is only entertaining for so long
>>
There is no website called "2chan." There's Futaba Channel, which is what you're referring to, and 2channel/2ch, which is what Hiroyuki founded.
>>
>>330323
Somebody get this weeb outta here.
>>
>>330337
Do you even know what a "weeb" is?
>>
>>330347
A word used to shitpost?
>>
>>330323
It's kind of pointless to make this argument when it's not uncommon to refer to websites by their url's. Futaba's url is 2chan.

I think the only reason to avoid calling it 2chan is simply because it causes confusion about which site is really being referred to.

Westerboos are watching you right now!

Looks like they're only interested in /a/

No, but futaba and /a/ had cultural exchanges from time to time.
>>
One time some 2ch anons from VIP posted a thread on /int/, started memeing hard and invited /int/ to their thread over there, but it turned out foreign IPs are banned in their board.

Name a single website which is referred to by its URL when the URL doesn't match the site's actual title.

8ch

>>330799
yeah but 8ch is shit.

2channel (2ch.net)
>>
No, they don't have this stupid raiding culture there.
>>
>>330799
That's (barely) shorthand for 8gag's actual name.

>>330871
That's shorthand for 2channel.
>>
Futaba is tiny, like /jp/-tier tiny. They couldn't start a raid even if they wanted to.
>>
>>330302
This place might actually be fun again if we were attacked by genuine raiders instead of stealth marketers and paid opinion shills.
>>
>>330570
I like how you think
>>
>>330323
Futaba Channel IS 2chan. 2ch is the textboard that Hiro created.
>>
>>330302
On October 16, 2003. But it shouldn't be considered a "raid" since they weren't trying to do any harm

Sauce: http://tanasinn.info/wiki/Complete_History_of_4chan

Futaba would never be able to hold a raid anymore. When "the golden era of the internet" started to die out, futaba became less and less used, the golden era of 4chan was coming to an end, and ni channeru's news4vip went to shit.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as 2chan, is in fact, Futaba/Channel, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Futaba plus Channel. 2chan is not a website unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning internet netscape made possible by the Futaba Channel name, themes, and vital memes, comprising a full website as defined by weebs.
Many computer users visit a version of the Futaba system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Futaba which is widely used today is often called “2chan”, and many of its users are not aware that it is really Futaba Channel, developed by Japs. There really is a 2chan, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the website they use.
2chan is the colloquial name: the nomenclature used that separates the newfags from the oldfags. The name is an essential part of a website, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete webpage. 2chan is normally used in combination with the Futaba backend: the whole site is basically Futaba with 2chan added, or Futaba/Channel. All the so-called “2chan” spinoffs are really knockoffs of Futaba/Channel.

JAPAN by moot - 12/17/03 @ 12:49PM EST #

Japanese domains have now been blocked from accessing any content located at boards.4chan.org. After reviewing the newest logs, almost half of the bandwidth transfer was to .jp domains, which accounts for about 650GB in a little over two weeks. This is way too much for about the fifty posts I've seen from our foreign friends. I may consider undoing this in the future, however it is not likely due to the fact that I highly doubt it would stimulate any new posters.

I will make exceptions to this block. If you are a Japanese user or an English speaking person living in Japan that would like to continue posting, e-mail me."

They and 2ch used to browse 4chan in 2004. They never posted but ate so much bandwidth moot had to rangeban them for a while. This is ban when a ban stopped you from browsing 4chan

i think the IPban was lifted after a reset, iirc

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as 2chan, is in fact, Futaba Channel/2chan, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Futaba Channel plus 2chan. 2chan is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Futaba Channel system made useful by the Futaba Channel corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the Futaba Channel system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Futaba Channel which is widely used today is often called 2chan, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Futaba Channel system, developed by the Futaba Channel Project.

There really is a 2chan, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. 2chan is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. 2chan is normally used in combination with the Futaba Channel operating system: the whole system is basically Futaba Channel with 2chan added, or Futaba Channel/2chan. All the so-called 2chan distributions are really distributions of Futaba Channel/2chan.

They used to lurk silently more than anything. I think moot said Japanese IPs made 90% of the traffic, but like 1% of the posts.
