It was plain to me that he suffered from anxiety. He was old, vulnerable and confused, there was no malice there. He was put in a terrifying situation and acted to defend himself. I struggled to see how you couldn't feel sympathy for him.
A majority of the students there thought otherwise though. He was given a grilling - some really nasty questions. He didn't fight back, he just shrugged it off as if he didn't expect them to understand.
That's what an ideology and a media soak can do to people - very clever people in this case. They completely disregarded the very obvious evidence of a poor, broken man in front of them and treated him as if he was evil.

If these guys legitimately broke into his house, I'm not sure how any court came to these conclusions.
