You have to understand the history
This guy named Wallace Fard Mohammad comes out of nowhere in the 1930's, No one knows where he's from, other than some claims he was born in Afghanistan. He was either white or middle eastern, I'd say the nose suggests he was easterner.
Either way, he shows up in Detroit and starts going to various households of black southerners who had just moved there, using the bible to ease these blacks into accepting the most primordial concepts of Afrocentrism. He would give them silk claiming it was from their "homeland" for example.
As he built a crowd, he soon began to bash the bible and it's teachings in an effort to instill a stronger anti-white sentiment in his followers, eventually introducing the Koran. There were even some events regarding human sacrifices to promote the destruction of "devils".
in 1931 he met Elijah Robert Poole (later Mohammad) and convinced him that Fard was a prophet, establishing the nation of islam, 80000 strong and vastly growing.
In this time Fard made it some sort of afro-centric fantasy and introduced the ideas such as Shabazz and Yukab.
By 1934 Wallace vanished without a trace and the FBI just never cared, leaving Elijah in control of the Nation of Islam.
