As far as I can tell, most people were upset with the fact that Ghostbusters was getting remade at all. The originals were made with the right cast at the right time, and it would be very hard to duplicate their success again, especially with a full reboot. Recommend watching Coffey with a 70's Pam Grier in it. It seriously kicks ass for heroine type movie leads.
I went to see it, because I like Ghostbusters, was curious, enjoy SNL and McCarthy, and expecting nothing was pleasently surprised.
The original cast seemed to have liked it and I think Harold Ramis would have liked it the most if he were still alive. The cameos were great.
The editing was a little weird, but I can easily forgive that for entertainment value. Yes, characters were over the top (I couldnt stand the acting by the Mayor's Aid... like she was doing a skit on SNL), but 80's humor isnt what would sell today.
The beginning was perfectly done, including casting for it. Definetly brought me back to the library.
The 3D was great, letter boxing the film slightly to add an extra layer of dimension. A very cool effect I wish had been used sooner... popping out of the screen without being in your face.
Rowan was awesome, and the premise was such a good idea to come back to the franchise with... centered around something everyone knew and giving it a backstory sort of.

The reason people saw the first movie was because of the stars. The plot of the movie itself was pretty crappy.
And, the fact that you don't see it played every other week on AMC shows that the move (the plot) really doesn't have staying power.
To remake a crappy movie, to guilt women into seeing it as some sort of duty, and then to blame men for the fact that it makes a poor showing is really a recipe for disaster.
On the plus side.... if the movie really is crap, and they succeed in talking women into doing it as their "duty", they may walk away thinking that this duty business is crap, and start thinking the same thing about their 'duty' to vote for hillary.

This. Think of all of the mediocre 80s movie remakes we've seen recently (Clash of the Titans, Total Recall, Red Dawn, Robocop, etc.). I think people are just tired of it.

For some reason I really like this B-movie. It's /pol/'s predicted future in a nutshell. In a post-apocalyptic world marriage is a prostitution contract for a night, and the main guy has found true bliss in a demure robo-waifu. But when she shorts out, he has to go find a new one in the wastelands, and charters a tomboyish guide in an offroad mustang to help him out. They are pursued by a New Age cult, and (predictably) end up falling in love.
At no point in the movie does she show this much cleavage or wield a RPG launcher, but that's 80's B-movie posters for you.
Same director as Miracle Mile, too. Which is a real must-see, as far as I'm concerned.

It's a simpler film from a simpler time. It's certainly not the best film ever, but somehow it's more than the sum of its parts. I like seeing a film like that, and seeing how someone just decided "nope, in this future society, marriage is literally prostitution" as just an element of the larger story.
And, of course, the atypical female lead makes it noteworthy. Though I suppose modern feminists would shit on her for being "one of the guys".
