Honestly, as a Korean who have been living in the US, and while I'm proud of Korean innovation and cultural/music export,South Korea has been turning pretty degenerate.
1) Huge amount of societal conformity - girls all look the same. They all wear the same clothes, same hair styles, same fashion, same plastic surgery, and talk about same trivial stuff and celebrity gossips.
2) Video game epidemic - For young man, there is huge video game epidemic problem. Lots of countless productive formative time in their lives are spent wasting away playing video games and adding no real value to society.
3) Plastic Surgery - Plastic surgery is not the norm, like every single girl gets their eyes and nose done. It's hard to find naturally good looking girls.
4) Lack of innovation and corporatism - Big conglomerates basically control the economy and government. South Korean economy is really technology based but there really isn't room for competition and innovation.
5) Faltering economy and unemployment - The economy is in the shits right now and people cannot find jobs. Senior level positions at big companies are getting laid off at 40s and college graduates are stuck with no jobs. I have a lot of extended family members thinking about moving to different country.
6) Educational system - Korean education system is shit. High school students spend ungodly hours trying to get a good score on a exam that basically determine their lives. Oh and you can't really choose what you want to be either, your teacher basically put you into what major you will go into based on your score. Once they get into college, Koreans don't study as hard and spend most of the time clubbing and drinking. It's a system that produces mindless drones workers with no real passion.
