I've literally gone to school for gunsmithing, compared the common choices in bolt guns, and am telling you that 1MOA .308 700 from the factory is very unlikely with factory ammo.
You can get a Savage 10 series in a few different variants (heavy barrel would be my recommendation for long range), and it'll be more accurate, have a better trigger, and cost the same or less than the 700. Tikka makes good offerings, too.
Since Remington got bought out they've lost their luster. My only motivation in responding is to try to keep you from wasting your money

Getting a rifle here is a matter of sitting through an 8 hour course then waiting a month and a half for a glorified ID card. Not sure on the entire process for a pistol but I do know it's much stricter. You have to notify authorities when transporting. The local cabelas has tons of guns though.

A gun is not a precaution against something that is likely to happen TO ME.
Me owning a gun would be like me wearing a helmet all the time. A helmet DOES protect me from heavy things falling on my head, but I don't live in a situation that requires it. However construction workers do need it, because that is a REAL risk to them.
