Why do you think euthanasia is a big deal in Canada? It's a big deal here too. It's a big deal because while people can see good reasons to legalise it, they want to be careful of the downsides. Such as old people wanting to die a lot more in countries with euthanasia. Such as evidence that a lot of people seem to be killed by family members more often when they have a big inheritance to give out.
How do you protect vulnerable old people who might be mentally deficient from being killed by family members who want them dead for various reasons including financial? You can have 3rd parties and psychologists verify that those people really with to die. You can also have doctors ensure that these people are not simply depressed due to chemical imbalances curable with drugs etc. You also need systems to ensure these 3rd parties are truly impartial.
That's why assisted suicide is debated so much, because all this requires complex and carefully thought out legal mechanisms.
I don't know what kind of advise islam states for assisted suicide, but based on the kind have shit the quran has, I doubt it has many of these safe guards that western countries want to have. I'll bet you either don't know or are too embarrassed to tell me.
