My guess is that Pence is the kind of guy who just changes with the way the wind blows (within the republican party) My guess would be that he also does not have very much 'baggage', as Roger Stone said that Nixon told him "The candidate should pick a VP who doesn't hurt him, not one that tries to widen his appeal or anything else"
