There were some legitimate arguments in favor of Flynn, and I would like to seem him somewhere in the administration.
He couldn't escape three flaws:

He has, however, been a Trump advisor since very early in the campaign, and was based enough to break ranks and lose his job rather than put up with Obama's shit, despite being a lifelong dem.
There's also plenty of good arguments in favor of a military VP (I liked the idea of Petraeus back in the day), particularly in a campaign with national security as one of its three primary focuses, and it particularly appeals to those /pol/acks with a more nationalist bent.
However, I've been paying attention to what Trump and Manafort and Carson have been saying about who will get the pick for the past couple of months, and the emphasis they all put on legislative experience made it pretty clear it probably wasn't gonna be a military man.

This VP choice was made for 2 reasons:

Trump needs the RNC's organizational support. Unlike conventional candidates who have a background and working relationships with other politicians, Trump doesn't have the ability to create a national campaign on his own. The RNC has agreed to fill out the national ground campaign if Trump agrees to raise money for them. Until now the RNC has been half-assing it.

It's honestly a good way to defuse a lot of these situations. It helps that it's also the right way.
