Obv you can't go to grocer in event of Martial Law, like Turkbros.

What do you recommend for stocks Anons?

Kudzu is edible
>>
That's a good question I've been considering myself.

Should you buy canned food which are heavy, but hydrated?

Or should you buy dehydrated / freeze dried food, and hope that you have a supply of clean water nearby?
>>
>>81239884

Does that container in your pic have water filters included?
>>
>>81239884
Oxygen free rice, dried beans, and water. Aside from the water you can keep those things up to 30 years in storage anf theyll be safe. Dehydrated beans literally dont expire. Honey, canned fish, jerkey, and peanut butter are also good.

If you go the canned food route, make sure you get low sodium canned food, and make sure you stock up a bunch on can openers.

Google "MRE" or camping foods

I remember seeing a channel on YT, where they reviewed MRE's etc., can't recall the name though.

Water, food, weapons, ammo, tools, barter, wealth storage.

In that order.

Depending on your finances, a good start is about 10-15% in PHYSICAL precious metals.

Food should be something you already enjoy, with a high shelf life, and high caloric value.

Water can be a combination of storage, such as a waterbob, food grade drums, etc, and filters such as katadyn and lifestyle etc.

Weapons should be something easy to find, reliable and with prevalent ammo. AR is fine. 9mm is fine.

Don't forget tools. If something breaks, you need to know how to fix it, or you're fucked.

Barter is anything you have tons of to trade. Keep in mind, if you trade a lot, people will assume you have more.

This might sound gay, but get into extreme couponing or convince your girlfriend (hand) to do it.

You can fill a room with random toiletries like soaps, razors, detergent, dry goods, etc for nearly free. Just double up all coupons and wait for a sale. There are a bunch of apps that streamline the process.

Wealth storage is usually physical gold if you think stability will return, and silver is useful of you're poorer than most.

Good luck.

cheap store brand peanut butter, those big jars are like 6 bucks. not healthy but calories out the ass.

Heres what i do. Every time you go to the grocery store buy at least one item to store. Canned, dried, bottled, something. Prep food doesnt always need to last years, two year shelf life is fine enough. It canjust be one can of something. It really adds up and will just be a couple bucks added to your purchase

This.
Just pick up a few extra tings every time you go to the store. If you see cases of bottled water on sale pick up a couple and just put them away under the bed or something. Keep at it and it will start to add up. Build it up from a 2 week supply, to a 3 month supply, to a 1 year supply.

And to stress, buy things you will eat. Rotate your preps by eating the older ones and putting the new stuff in the back, otherwise you are going to end up with a bunch of spoiled shit in a few years. You want to basically build up a part of your house to be your own little market that you use and restock slowly but regularly.

water storage is more important desu. even if you have a body of water nearby everyone will be pooping in it once the taps shut off.

As for food, cans of soup, beef stew, chili, ravioli, etc. are perfect for short term storage. They are fine to eat for a few years past their expiration.

For the long term, a big bag o' rice and some multivitamins will keep you alive while you wait for all the normies to kill each other off.

But seriously, make sure you have a water filter, or at least the ability to make one. PVC pipe + sand + bleach. Drink a lot of 2L sodas and fill them with water when finished.

Here's a good long list of everything you may want to take into consideration: http://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/preppers-supply-list-for-economic-collapse/

My idea is to have as much useful stuff as you can, while eliminating almost everything you don't really need. My personal stuff:
- Food supply
- Bottled water
- Seeds
- Pot / pan for cooking, and to boil water for drinking
- Tent
- 2 rifles, 2 handguns
- Extra ammo
- 2 axes (with blunt side for hammering), 2 knives
- Flashlight, extra batteries
- Entertainment. Books, pen / paper, playing cards, etc.

I disagree with this idea that you need gold / silver. That's not going to help you, nobody is going to give up anything useful for your gold or silver. If you plan to trade with other people, have something they might actually want, and something you don't really need / have extra of.

Only buy foods your family and you will eat. Rice, oats, flour, sugar, salt are staples you can pick up at any whole sale store for cheap. If buying massive amounts (years worth) invest in some mylar bags (amazon).

Even picking up a few extra cans of food will help. Hell buy ramen if you like it just try not to use the salt packs that come with them.

No. In a SHTF situation and you are lucky to have a second floor covering the bottom floor will prevent people from breaking your windows and entering. It is an additional safety measure.
Just be sure to install them from the inside not the outside.
>>
Don't waste money on prepackaged deals unless you're a lazy richfag, in which case you'll probably die anyway to be frank.

Start with white rice (lasts longer than brown), pinto beans, and salt. Dehydrated vegetables are good. Dried grains last 30+ years; cans are heavy and last 4-8. Crisco or canned butter last the longest of the fats, unless you have alternative energy to power a freezer and freeze vegetable oil.

Hard dry wheat is good, too; flour doesn't last as long.

If you're going to grab yer SKS and go inna woods, odds are you'll be dead within a fortnight…

Best bet is to stay in your house where you have shelter, food, water, guns, clothes, etc. and while plywood panels won’t make your house into a bunker, (nothing short of being an actual bunker will) it will provide much greater security then glass windows.

If you can afford it, get roll-down window shutters.

I was an EE student once upon a time. I got hired by one of my profs. as a research assistant. Which, as an undergrad, basically just meant being a lab gopher. It paid pretty well, and a lot of the time I didn't have any work to do, so I was able to keep up with my schoolwork. You should talk to your professors and ask them if the school allows them to hire students in a work-study type of situation.

Also booze (high proof liquor doubles as disinfectant), smokes, TP, feminine products, meds (painkillers, sleep aids, bandages, anti-bactirial stuff), batteries, condoms (People want to avoid having babies) All make good barter items in a prolonged crisis.

Look up stories about places with fucked economies like Venezuela, some of them give you a real good idea of what carries value when things start to go bad.

this is smart. my list is:

>lighters
>22lr ammo
>12ga/20ga birdshot
>5.56 55gr rounds
>9mm rounds
>cheap whiskey or vodka
>a couple burner pistols (hi point, rossi, taurus, tokarev, etc)
>pool chlorination powder (powered bleach)
>soap
>toilet paper
>fire wood
>basic medical supplies (bandages, azithromycin)

Aside from the ammo and z-paks it's basically just costco bulk pak type things that will be in limited supply. It's just too bad Costco doesn't sell ammo.

It's more that it requires you to put a round that's shitty for defense into your gun, make a bunch of noise, and use a relatively heavy/large/spendy cartridge to take game.

Hunting in SHTF makes more sense as an opportunistic endeavor, for 99% of people. Trapping makes more sense than active hunting, which would be very dangerous.

Who is to say that will even happen? The number one concern during a SHTF scenario, would be survival. I don't think it's practical to have to babysit your gold the whole time.

Also, I don't think that after stability is regained, people will go "oh, he has gold, let's build a house for him, let's give him lots of food." The economy will be reset to factory zero for everyone, and nobody will care that you carried gold around for a few years or whatever.

>>81251120
Unless you have no neighbors for miles, they'll hear the shots when you hunt. And to go hunting requires that you leave your defended area, which also makes anyone staying at your homestead less safe, since you're splitting up from them.

As for the tool, I think suffering with .22LR for hunting most small/medium game makes a lot more sense. Quieter, cheaper, lighter, much easier to carry in addition to a capable fighting rifle, compared to a shotgun. You might have to wait for a still shot, but the advantages are extreme.
>>
>>81250322

Something you USbros forget about. Crossbows + Air Rifles.

A cheap as fuck air rifle, an 10 tins of pellets will give you small game hunting for years to come. Anything bigger, use a decent pull crossbow, and you have a reusable, silent, deer killer.

>>
>>81239884

Canned food is the way to go. It doesn't need to be light weight unless you plan on running around with it which you shouldn't. You'll defend your home and as long as you have space to stockpile food it should be no problem.

I like spam even though it's high in sodium. A little meat goes a long way compared to shit like canned corn or chef boyardee, won't get you full on one can. Jars of peanut butter/jams pack a punch to fight off hunger as well.

Stockpile toilet paper, lighters, cheap alcohol can be used to burn and other useful items that can be traded.

Lastly, guns and ammo. What good is having food if it's stolen from you by gun point and you have no way of defending what little you have?

>>81247870

Those seem really expensive. A cheap alternative is those metal screen doors, I have an extra one in my backyard. I'd prop it against the front windows (on the inside) for some protection in a gun fight along with some plywood behind it. It's not going to stop everything but it should be sufficient.

damn near forever in well sealed opaque plastic containers.

it's smart to store powdered pool shock for purifying water if you think it's at all questionable. they sell it at wal mart for next to nothing. it's effectively powdered bleach, it converts to a Cl- ion and some other shit upon contact with water, and it has an unlimited shelf life.

for camping I use this shit called polar pure. It's a vial of iodine pellets that you fill with water. Lasts thousands upon thousands of gallons.

If you're in a static location, you'll have access to water, or die. So, if we assume you have access to water, the advantages of canned food are meaningless, and they last like 1/8 as long as dry food, or less. Not to mention way more expensive per calorie than dry grains/beans.

I don't think wasting money on TP makes a lot of sense compared to a cloth and shock mixture. If you must have paper, try to collect the phonebooks that everyone throws away anymore. Crinkle the sheets and smooth them out 2-3 times and it becomes soft enough to wipe with.

It's less a question of capability than it is of safety.

Can you afford to leave your homestead for hours to track an animal? You're alone (or pulling more people from the homestead), separated, and will be at a severe disadvantage dragging the deer back.

Dedicated hunting is extremely dangerous in SHTF, because of other humans.

the problem with liquid bleach is that it goes bad in about 3 months if it's opened, or 6 months if it's sealed. the chlorine gas leaches out. That's why I'd recommend pool shock, boiling, or some form of iodine.

dont bother with all these expensive options, just go to a farmers market/asian market and buy in bulk. you just need something (better than nothing)... have it last forever... and be able to properly ration it (will power) to give bare minimum daily intake to prevent starvation.

It's fun to fantasize about SHTF scenarios, but realistically, it would never happen that way.

Individual people aren't going to all hole up in their own personal bomb shelters and eat dehydrated scrambled eggs until the supplies run out and the vault door has to open.

Survivors are going to come together very quickly and form civilized societies again, working together to procure what they need. It's simply much more efficient when you have enough people that they can specialize jobs again.

After all, with no civilization, no entertainment no good food or no human interaction, what the fuck is the point of living anyway? Just eat a bullet at that point.

Soylent is only good for a year.

I looked into it and tried it. Seemed like an interesting way to get the most nutrients for your buck if you can find a better way to store it.

Not sure if the 1 year shelf life is just a preferred "eat by" date with little consequence, or if it actually goes rancid. I've got a few bags that are a little older than a year and a half. I plan on opening after 3 years and seeing what happens.

Opened one just now and it seems uniform and not fucked in any way.
>>
I have a backpack, swimsuit, a multi-tool knife and a flash light (with batteries I think).

What else do I need to survive an Australian happening?
>>
Yeah batteries don't have a long shelf life, they constantly go bad.

A good one is those solar garden lights. Most likely the power grid will be down and nights are when you will be the most vulnerable. People will try to light candles which is dangerous. Even if you don't need them now, it still saves money on electricity to see around your home with the power of solar. Imagine having to go to the bathroom at night or you hear some noise. Batteries won't last long for flashlights to be useful for over 2-3 years. I would get a lantern before a flashlight. My nice flashlight lasts maybe 4-5 hours? Not even a full night. But most lanterns have low modes and can stay on for more than 8 hours. I found out the hard way after a scheduled power outage.

To the people concerned about gun noise: When you shoot, that's probably more likely to scare people away than it is to attract them. And after using your gun, you could just be alert for a while. If someone tries to hunt you down, they only have a general idea of where you are, but you are more familiar with your environment, so you have the advantage.

Unless you're rich, it doesn't make any sense.

If you can afford to buy whatever you want, then it's moot. But for 99.9999% of people, having more beans and rice is better than less tomatoes. In the mid to long term, you need a sustainable food source or you'll die, anyway. So increasing your chances of getting to that point is the best option.

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet, but thought I should add; When things start to turn south, share stuff with your neibors. Don't trade or barter, just give some stuff away. If you got your year supply of preps in rotation, got your metals and guns and ammo and trade items set, if you are good to go and wondering "What's left to get?" Get ready to set up a soup kitchen. Have a folding table or two, some large pots and a ton of powdered soup mix. If things start to look squirrely and people start running low on food, start making people soup and giving it away to anyone who needs it. Don't ask for anything in return other than "No problem man, we gotta look out for each other ya know? Just keep an eye out for us alright?"

Prepping starts looking a lot like hoarding and will turn you into a target, and people will find out sooner or later. Best way to counter that is to get everyone around you on your side at the start by being generous and sharing some of your preps.

What about the situation in bosnia with the story about the lighters? People are going to fend for themselves first before any "community" help begins. Those with lots of resources will have the most leverage. Beggars cannot be choosers.

Are people forming civilized societies in venuezula when they're having food and toilet paper crisis? Sure they aren't killing each other over food yet but it's every person for themselves first and foremost.

I agree with you that it would be more of a slow decline rather than an overnight happening. But it's better to be prepared than to be stuck going to an emptied out supermarket and having little to no alternative for necessities.

I'm in Michigan and we've got water all around us, but you can just dip a bucket in the lake and drink it and once the water in the local water tower runs dry, you won't have any more water pressure in your house.

Wasting water on beans, rice, oats in addition to expending all kinda energy via propane, wood fires (you've got a wood stove, right?...) is the last thing you want to do.

Canned food is already cooked and can be eaten out of the can.
