They would, many psychological studies have shown that soldiers pretty much follow orders no matter what. They don't even have the right to disobey their commanders and they're not citizens, they're isolated from the regular American population and live either abroad or on bases.
Do you know who ARE citizens, and do you know who CAN disobey their commanders, a group that lives among the regular citizens and interacts with the same communities as we do every day? THE POLICE. The cops are our last line of defense, which is why the media and gov't are so relentlessly trying to take power away from them. A marine will confiscate firearms from an American neighborhood, and a cop will not.
Of course we have things like Oathkeepers but by and large the military will always do as it is told. The police are more loyal to the citizenry because they still live and work among us. In the military, you are taught to be loyal to your superior, not to the Constitution or to the people or even to the US - you follow the orders given to you.
There would be a split but it wouldn't be 50/50 and the majority of them would follow orders.
