Debatable and definitely insignificant. AK's come in a varied array of calibers and so does the AR. Have you ever tried shooting low grain high velocity rounds through thick foliage? They have a high tendency to go other than where you're aiming when they hit limbs and just about anything solid. Heavier lower velocity rounds punch through better "innawoods".

The biggest problem with current issue FAMAS is the same as the issues with the M60 and the M249. They are old and absolutely beat to shit. The French don't need a new design, they just need new production. You can only shoot so many tens of thousands of rounds through a gun before all the parts just wear down too much to be worth repairing.

Bullpups turned out to be shit for modern warfare because of modern heavy armor, and tactical vests. It's hard to reach the magwell when your chest and shoulders have a bunch of shit strapped to them. Also the retracting stocks of modern standard layout rifles accommodate those large vests and different size people very well.
