We have to find means, where available and when possible, of reducing the number of police shootings. Chicago police would've been able to spare the life of Laquan McDonald had they been equipped with tasers. Philando Castile might still be alive if police procedure required officers to put armed robbery suspects in cuffs immediately.
We're not going to solve this problem if one camp constantly holds the position that the police are waging war on everyone without cause, and the other camp insists that the police are always above reproach. We can establish the conditions to reduce police-involved death without endangering police or coddling criminals.
