Putin is in a difficult situation because he failed to succeed with the internal development of Russia and instead it still relies on natural resources, he introduced a new National Guard to defend him because he doesn't trust the FSB, Ukraine separated from Russia which is a historical loss and also a blow to the russian identity, and ordinary Russians also have their patience. So yeah, he is in a hard spot, just like Russia as a whole
