How do you figure that? Once the top part of the tower began to pancake onto the bottom part, the resistance would be pretty low.
It would be much like stamping on a cardboard box. You might be able to find a cardboard box which can support your weight if you stand on it carefully, but if you stomp on it it will completely give in. When your feet hit the cardboard, once the walls of the cardboard box start to bend the box completely loses its structural integrity and can provide very little resistance in stopping you from completely collapsing the box. For this reason it's very hard to half collapse a cardboard box by stamping on it.
The WTC collapse would be exactly that same. It's basically a steel box with core on the inside. Once the walls on the outside of the building start to bend, there's very little to stop the whole thing coming down really easily.

exactly. When the walls of the floor that the plane hit collapsed, all the floors on top of it began falling down toward the floors below. I guess the floor height in the towers was 2.5 meters or so? So when the floors on top hit the floors below they would have been falling at close to 25m/s. Which is pretty fast for something as heavy as that to hit the lower stack of floors. That's why the force comes from.

Why is that the thing? It didn't happen instantly because the collapse was triggered by the steel in the building weakening. This is explained pretty thoroughly on lots of places. The floors the caught fire were supported by steel beams that connected the building core to the outer walls, these beams provided the building with rigidity. This beams weakened in the heat of the fire and began to sag. When they sagged, they started pulling the outer walls of the building they are connected to into the building. This is what caused the walls to collapse and begin the global collapse.
