1500 years ago Islam already established a woman's ability to be utterly financially independent and secured her inherited and earned wealth; on the other hand, women were completely disenfranchised under Christianity and only gained secure property rights about 150 years ago in the west.

The important part you're forgetting is that womens influence over the state does not end at marriage. The worrying trend is that simply associating with women can now land you in as much legal trouble as marriage in some parts of the world, and this is getting worse every year.
In the UK there's a bill going through the commons that if you cohabitate with a woman (even if she just lives rent free in a building you soley own or rent) and she get's pregnant with your baby then she get's the equivelent of alimony.
In some states in America you can become the legal guardian of a child which is not biologically yours if you've been considered to be in a fatherly role for a period of time, that means you're legally responsible for child support payments for a child that is not yours.
In France women can accuse you of being a father without evidence and you become responsible for child support. It is strictly illegal to get a DNA test done on the child and yourself to prove that you're not the father.
In Canada you do not have to be married to have to pay child support. Child support payments are set at a limit to keep the children in the same luxury they were in prior to the split, even if your earning power goes down. There's men in Canada who earned a lot of money one year because they sold assets or cashed in investments and had child support set at a huge amount, an amount that exceeds their yearly earnings after that. Do you know what the judges say to these men. That their ability to pay does not change their obligation to pay.
Can't pay? Off to prison you go. You're still expected to pay while in prison, can't pay because you don't have a job while in prison? Tough now you stay in prison longer.
