To be fair, constant referendums are a good idea on some issues. If you're confident in your position you have nothing to fear from them.
Imagine we held 10 referendums and they all came back for Brexit? Forget suicide watch, there'd be no remaniacs left alive!
Similarly, unionists who're actually comfortable in the idea that Scotland as a whole wants to be in the UK would have nothing to fear from a similar situation. It's bizarrely telling that they aren't. (Which is funny given how poor the current case for independence is on economic grounds.)
>>80711296

"Well, I have said, and I think it is basic — we have got to learn lessons from the past. Anybody who doesn’t learn lessons from the past is a fool; he’s lived without learning anything. And, therefore, the basic error of fascism was the disregard for liberty. I don’t plead as guilty on that as other people should and must plead guilty, because I always stood against imprisonment without trial, even before I suffered it myself. But, I think the basic error of fascism was that in its drive for action at all cost, it overrode liberty; and the great problem of this present-day age is to synthesize the drive for action, which is completely necessary, with the preservation of individual liberty. And if we can achieve that, we’ve made some contribution to the thought of our age, and that has been my whole effort since the war."

Dan Jarvis, maybe.
Even then they can't win. Scotland's gone SNP, the working class areas in England and Wales are going UKIP. That leaves a few middle class people too guilt-stricken to vote Tory.
New Labour was predicated on the idea Scotland, the North and Wales would always be Labour allowing them to capture the middle class vote by shafting their core vote. That is no longer possible.

Not from this. It will have a bad effect, but it won't collapse it.
Even if Eurozone members like Greece, Italy and Spain give up and start to really shit the bed, they will only drag the Eurozone down even further (yes, it's possible). But Germany and France are too delusional and stubborn to abandon it now, so that won't kill it. They will just keep bailing the failures out, even when it becomes suicidal to do so.
What will kill the Eurozone in my opinion is the V4s. They are one of the very few regions in the EU that have good growth and potential. But they are also getting very fed up with the EU, and if things continue as they are, they won't tolerate it. They don't want to pay for unemployed Syrian illegal immigrants or for Greek parasites to live in mansions, they want to be successful. They will kill the Eurozone, and thus the EU.

It was essentially socially liberal centrists against the socially conservative working class led by traditionalist tories

>Britain’s vote to leave the EU has unleashed a wave of discrimination against UK researchers, with elite universities in the country coming under pressure to abandon collaborations with European partners.
>In a confidential survey of the UK’s Russell Group universities, the Guardian found cases of British academics being asked to leave EU-funded projects or to step down from leadership roles because they are considered a financial liability.
>In one case, an EU project officer recommended that a lead investigator drop all UK partners from a consortium because Britain’s share of funding could not be guaranteed. The note implied that if UK organisations remained on the project, which is due to start in January 2017, the contract signing would be delayed until Britain had agreed a fresh deal with Europe.

The problem is our culture HAS been reduced to such superficial nonsense due to cultural marxism. So as to enable non-brits to easily be considered 'British'.
They go so far to say that the single biggest defining value of Britishness is 'tolerance', so literally the most British thing to be, is to be tolerant of the destruction of British culture. They have literally brainwashed people into a cultural black hole.
'Britishness' = Multicultural Relativist Non-Culture + Superficial British stereotypes
The only way we can reverse this is by rejuvenating our respective Ethno-National cultures (English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish) and then reforming a true Britishness from that foundation.

>I cant wait for the day when their deficit destroys the SNP
>created by the SNP to bribe them with free gibs
No.
Holyrood is an administrative institution: It doesn't run deficits, it allocates fixed funds. Actually, it has to make sure it doesn't run deficits: (That doesn't stop opportunists whining about underspends.) http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/13196280.Scottish_Government_in_record___444m_underspend/
The deficit is a result of tax revenues (which mostly flow to Westminster) not matching spending (Mostly controlled by Westminster in terms of raw amount, Holyrood mostly funded by the block grant, which is - you guessed it - decided by Westminster. Holyrood just decides how to allocate Block-grant spending.)
The notional deficit of an independent Scotland is completely irrelevant to their position in the union.
(Note, like I say: Scotland's independent position is poor. That doesn't make it the SNP's fault when the SNP are allocating a fixed amount of spending, and still managing to provide more gibs than Labour did on the same amount by cutting spending elsewhere.)
Furthermore, Spain will not veto Scottish accession if the UK accepts independence (It would have to, or Scotland wouldn't be independent):
>“‘If in the UK both parties agree that this is consistent with their constitutional order, written or unwritten, Spain would have nothing to say, just that this does not affect us. No one would object to a consented independence of Scotland.’
>He said the independence of Kosovo was different because it was based on a “unilateral decision” and admitted the Spanish position would have been different if it had been agreed between Belgrade and Pristina.”
http://archive.is/sUgld
I won't comment on Belgium because they're a non-country.
I'm no nationalist, not even a Scot, but so many people have had memes drilled into their head that simply aren't true. The case for Scottish independence can fail on facts alone. There's no need to cry wolf.

You ignore one thing I would possibly say:
Britain is an artificial nation. Britain's culture and identity are inextricably linked to colonialism (and I'm not saying that as an anti-colonialist.) because of the nature of how Scotland and England came together.
Scots and English have ethnic differences and are real nations. Britain is an artificial nation that needs to be outward looking (i.e. either colonizing or otherwise fucking around with the world and focusing outside) because when it gets a chance to look inwards, it'll slowly remember that there's no such thing as a "British" person ethnically. There are Scots, and there are English, and there are Anglo-Scots and so on: but no Brits.
I recall reading that immigrants tend to identify as British, but not English or Scottish.
Now I love Britain and notions of Britishness as much as any man, but that does sit at the back of my head: Britain is an idea and a very nice idea, but it's man-made and artificial. Not quite Yugoslavia, but somewhat similar. (Actually perhaps an ironic opposite, as my recollection is that Yugoslav people are all very ethnically similar, whereas we've got clear differences, yet they're the ones who engaged in ethnic cleansing.)
>>80718535
Oh we do. We couldn't possibly live in such proximity without kinship or affinity.
But we're not the same.
>>80717340
I have explained his suggestion for direct democracy (fascism) for the UK to several people WITHOUT revealing whose idea it was... I have suggested it as my idea.
It was warmly received by all. They thought it made complete sense.
"really makes you think huh?"
So, what if we could campaign for support for that system, without the brand toxicity that the great man has been lumbered with....
FYI, for those who do not know about it... he suggested it was no surprise that our current political system produced incompetent politicians and little real progress. Why would you think otherwise when you have (say) a van driver voting for a former GP who is then put in charge of the MOD. How is that ever going to produce a good result? People should vote according to their trade, that way they are in a position to evaluate what they are being told by prospective candidates for the ministry of that trade/subject matter.

I am currently attempting to extract, from several public "personalities" that /pol knows, what their recommendation would be be a new myth of the nation, for a country re-born. This will serve 2 purposes for me.
1) I will process their responses into something for wider circulation.
2) The very act of having to think of such a thing will (I hope) stir in them something...and that they will start talking about it through their own channels.
Starkey and Hitchens will be first to respond.
WE COULD OF HAD IT ALL........
