I am a retired Army officer with over 30 years on active duty. I have used assault weapons, U.S.- and foreign-made. They are made for soldiers and police, not ordinary citizens. They are not hunting weapons and do not belong on our streets or in our towns and cities. They should be regulated in the same way as we regulate fully automatic weapons such as machine guns.
We are the only modern, industrialized nation that allows such a proliferation of battlefield weaponry. This is not an assault on the Second Amendment but a call for sensible regulation.

He was stutterring a bit in that interview and if he was selected the GOP, Republicans, and True Conservatives™ would probably throw a tempertantrum for a solid month before falling in line. After that though, it'd be smooth sailing.
