The truth is, Germany had a very competent officers corps and had invested into new technology and tactics while their enemies were complacent. The absurd Maginot Line was simply bypassed. The obsolete Poles overrun. The beheaded Red Army (see Stalin's purges) devastated. But then the enemy caught up. Stalin specifically saw that it was a lot better if he removed himself from military management while Hitler did the opposite. Combine this with a grossly inefficient German war industry and there was simply no winning for Hitler.

There was an estimate that if by the end of 1938 Hitler had not got hold of the Austrian gold, Germany would have literally imploded with hyperinflation and an economic meltdown. The Austrian gold bought Hitler about 6 months, so he needed the Czechoslovakian gold, which got him to fall of 1939, then the Warsaw gold which got him right into 1940, then the Norwegian gold, the Danish gold, the Dutch gold... but unfortunately no French gold.

Well, if you pay a worker to dig a hole, then fill it back up, you're technically getting rid of unemployment, but that's not a situation that's going to last. Such public works are good as temporary stimulus, to increasing purchasing power of citizens and encourage consumption, and therefore production (this is what the New Deal was based upon). However, this can only continue for as long as money is flowing in.
Obviously that's a pretty simple explanation. There are other negative factors to Germany's theoretical economic recovery. For example, large amounts of German workers were paid not directly. Instead, their earnings were distributed into savings accounts. Kicker is, these savings ended up being seized by the government again to fund the war effort.

The burning currency for fuel happened post-WW1 when the German government started printing heavily so it could pay the reparations to the victors. It was a big problem, yes, but Hitler didn't fix this. The hyperinflation went down much earlier than 1933, and Weimar Germany actually experienced some prosperity and political/economic stability during what is referred to as the Golden Twenties (1924-1929). The Great Depression put an end to that.
Note; I identify as a Fascist. But I simply can't find myself in this Hitler wankery. By all accounts he was a terrible statesman and diplomat and he is as responsible for the Soviet Union occupying half of Europe as the Allies are, if not more.
