Furthermore, not all slavery was perpetual or hereditary, most of the British imports had contracts, the jewish imports did as well. It was the fact that niggers could read and yet signed perpetual contracts that were upheld by the courts that led to this. and really, even if they could read, where would they have gone? There was no jobs, no housing, no food, nothing on the other side of that contract for most slaves.
