There's a lot of reasons things are dumbed down here.
1. Poor people and minorities refuse to learn any better so people try to accommodate them. (I'm formerly poor)
2.Even our conservative value tradition and religion versus education and pursuing intelligence. The liberals of course value social justice and artistic expression.
3. Americans are prone to believing that they are infallible due to the actions of the past great citizens, so we become arrogant and tell ourselves we don't need to get better, we are already the best.
However even with that bullshit we still manage to have brilliant people and continue to be the most important place on Earth.
