In many states, this may be one I don't know, it's perfectly legal to brandish your weapon if it's to prevent bodily harm or a threat to your life. You can use the gun as a way to calm the situation with the other party. As for police, they don't get too involved in these confrontations. That guy was on his own in there, as far as law enforcement goes.
