A Rifle is pretty useless for me.

It's not great for home defense (I mean, maybe if you're perched on your roof), and I can't CCW it.

I own a handgun, and I'm buying a shotgun at the next gunshow.

I respect anyone's ability to own one though, I just don't see a use for it for me.

So this is new to me.. AR-15s & AK-47s allow mods like Slide Fire at a low low cost of 300 bucks. FOR 300 bucks you can legally turn a 500 dollar AR into the equivalent of a M16. What the actual fuck. If orlando dude had that shit...

Rifles are great for hunting or screwing around at the range. Maybe home defense if you live in a more secluded area.

I live in a city, and using a rifle in my home would probably put a hole in my wall.

A handgun or shotgun are much more viable for home defense for me. Especially with my house being a bunch of narrow hallways.

And as far as masculinity goes, I think owning any firearm is good enough. Even a pink pistol.

You can get the knock off slide fire for ~$100. Buy them used though, the ATF has demanded both companies turn over their customer lists so you'll be on a watchlist if you buy one.

They are nothing like firing an actual full auto btw, no control over rate of fire, they are practically uncontrollable, to go along with this, pulling the gun forward to fire instead of squeezing the trigger is the most unnatural thing you'll ever do in your life, I know several people with them and they don't even interest me anymore, I'd never buy one, they're literally only a novelty. Totally pointless, waste of money/ammo and I don't think they're fun, you literally can't aim with them, I ain't even exaggerating.

The first few lines are just straight dumb. Playing up the "you can salvage ammo" thing is fucking retarded since you can easily stockpile more ammo than you would ever need to shoot even in the worst circumstances. And speaking of that 193 is definitely NOT the best ammo to stockpile.

Gas system and barrel length is hardly the most important aspect of building an AR, and the carbine vs midlength thing is typical forum slop.

PSA is cheap shit, so is midwest

Building an AR is frequently more expensive than buying complete, unless you are making something very obscure. And if will be built correctly, something a random jackass with no AR experience cannot do. Building is a shitty idea in general unless you know a lot about ARs and like to tinker.

>>80324799
Get nugget, preserve freedom.
>>
>>80323943
Build one, it's easy as legos, requires 2 tools only to build
>vice block
>AR wrench
It's cheaper, you'll be able to put together a higher quality product putting money where it should go barrel, trigger, etc, and spending less where it shouldn't, and you'll get a more intimate knowledge of how the gun works so you can better operate/understand and repair anything with it.

What? What is the most common caliber found in a house in the US? Around here (rural southern full-on-ass-fucking-cuckistan) most people I know have a win70 and or a mini-14 chambered in .308. I recomended buying a complete upper and lower; which litterally means pushing two pins together to "Build an AR"

PSA isn't cheap shit, it's literally equal in every way to Colt Milspec guns exept PSAs have better gas systems than LE6920s and have better CHF barrels(FN manufacturered)

Midwest is also not cheap shit.

M193 is the most efficient round to stockpile; this is objective fact.

shitty ball ammo is not efficient at anything other than being shitty. If you are stockpiling ammo with the intent of defending yourself, but good ammo.

Or just skip the middleman and get complete, buying halves is also more money usually.

Aside from SHTFantasy being retarded in the first place, keeping thousands of rounds on hand is not unusual, and if you are in a situation where you will blow though that much ammo defending yourself, you're dead anyway.

PSA Premium Upper + Your Choice of Lower + LPK, buffer tube, furniture = <$600 for a better gun than an 'entry level AR'.

FNH is right down the street from PSA's factory, and nearly all of the barrels come from them. They'll easily shoot 0.5-1 MOA like any other decent AR.

Cheap alloys, bad finish, inferior manufacturing process that create stress fractures that only show up later.

Stick with well known brands, but avoid the tacticool ones like Spikes, etc. A stripped lower should cost between 50 (TSA on sale) and 100 dollars. If you spend more than 10, your paying way too much. More than 200 and you're just plain stupid and you deserve to get ripped off.

You have no fucking idea what you're talking about, although finish quality does vary.

The alloys are all the fucking same. They get them from one of 3 foundries, already forged. For the faggot billet lowers, the machine shops buy 6061 or 7075 aluminum, which are both ASM standard alloys. The milling operations required to complete a lower do not put sufficient stress that any "fractures" or "distress" will occur. Enjoy the redpill.

I worked as a metallurgist for a few years at a steel foundry before going back to grad school.

Spoken like someone who knows jack shit about terminal ballistics.

M193, being a relatively high velocity round, has been known to defeat SOME STEEL ONLY armor SOMETIMES. It definitely is not in any way truly armor penetrating.

855 is not 'steel tipped' you mongoloid, and it also is not designed to be AP

>MUH FRAGMENTSSS

Yeah when 193 fragments at the cannelure it does create a more serious would than the typical shitty icepick it tends to produce when not fragmenting, but the fragmentation mechanic is highly unreliable and highly velocity dependent, AND STILL not as terminally effective as modern expanding ammo

ITS SHIT

m855 isn't reliable for fragmentation out of shorter barrels. this is true.

Newer ammo is. But m855 is not.

Also has a tendency to fragment a little "late" in its trajectory, ya?
>>
>>80328459
M193 reliably fragments as long as the velocity stays north of 2800fps. Use a 20" barrel and it's not a problem inside of 125 yards. You need 3200+ fps to defeat steel plates, a 16" carbine has problems reliably achieving this velocity, but a 18-20" barrel can do it easily.

And yes M855 has a 10gr mild steel "penetrator" under the jacket inside the nose. For the average person to understand, steel tipped is the easiest way to explain it.

I was talking about 193 there. What "newer ammo" are we talking about?

Fragmentation is not the same as expansion, fragmentation is not necessarily desirable, it's a fortune coincidence of the manufacture of standard mil ammo. A projectile designed from the ground up to be high performance would not fragment in that manner, since it is highly unreliable.

>M193 reliably fragments as long as the velocity stays north of 2800fps.

It MIGHT fragment is a better way to describe it, because even with the correct velocity there is no guarantee is will, that's why it is unreliable, unlike actual engineered expanding ammunition.

You do realize all of maybe 3-5 companies which make the cast forgings for *all* lowers manufactured in the USA, right?

If it claims to meet mil-spec, you're good. My most of my lowers are Aero Precision, who actually makes the PSA lowers as well as those of many other companies.

>>80327970

I actually don't disagree, melonite might actually be better for barrel life than chrome (I would love some actual materials science data to back this up, though. Mag dump 5k rounds through a chrome and melonite barrel, clean ever 250 rounds; and get back to me).

That said a chrome barrel will shoot better than most people here, and they still call for chrome lined bores in the DoD AR spec.

It's kind of a 'semi hollow point' round, 62 grain Open tip match with a lead core. The Mk 318 mod 1 is supposedly even better. Most of the magic is in the shape of the tip to improve the ballistic coefficient, so they travel faster, further; along with a more powerful powder charge, IIRC

tl;dr, bullet is faster and open at the end so it still penetrates and can fuck shit up.

Thanks a lot for the support, it's tough but i do appreciate it and you have the right logic of the situation. 0.224" = 5.7mm.
5.56x45mm as well as all nato cartridges are measured from the lands in the barrel, so the lands in the barrel of a 5.56 rifle measures 5.56mm in diameter. The bore diameter is still 5.7mm. Just a strange way they designate cartridges.

The only legitimate excuse to owning a rifle is fear of being shot in the street by another person who should not have a rifle. The country will descend further into violence and chaos as long as the NRA is as powerful as it is now. Business will eventually prefer to put more investment into more peaceful countries in the EU if it gets bad enough. The NRA will destroy the United States from the inside. Shameful.

Don't do this.

For your first firearm, get a .22. Learn to shoot it, clean it, proper weapon and range discipline. You can send thousands of rounds downrange cheaply.

Once you get proficient and comfortable, then decide. In the meantime, if you spend time at the range, you will meet lots of helpful people that will share info, and more than likely let you handle and shoot a variety of weapons.

Don't decide what to buy until you get first hand experience on what's out there, and how they fit to your preferences.

Do I really need to tell you that you guys aren't americans because the US had petty to invade your sorry ass excuse called as a country. Nobody needs Canada, m8. It's snowy as fuck. Cold. Filled with assholes and liberals, and the girls have no asses and are not hot. You're probably pathetic as fuck, and live on jacking off. Here's a pic of something that you can't get or fuck in your country. A hot girl, with big tits and ass.
