Well some interesting factoids
The north was pretty much a proto form of the Soviet Union. Literally conscripting swedes, Finns and other Nords "who at the time a long with the Irish were immigrating heavily" into the army. The union tended to deploy black regiments in first wave attacks to conserve their other men and lower the confederate ammunition stocks
The confederates sent advisors to the Indians in the west who supported the confederacy this laid the foundation for the American Indian wars in the west, at least partially.
Several confederate and union generals were incredibly close friends who found themselves on opposite sides and wrote letters of forgiveness and admiration to be given to their counterparts if they died
The army of Tennessee fought for about a year on 1/4 rations eating only cornmeal and locally scavenged nuts and small game.
