>haha thinking that elites with control of military and advanced technology would ever allow masses to have a system where they had anything more than an illusion of self-determination

In small unimportant countryes like mine? I'm pretty sure it is.

yes, but the form governance can take is limited by the nature of the economy

there are no current systems of government that are like true feudal kingdoms anymore, no slave empires, the nature of the economy doesn't permit its existence

direct democracy is essentially the form of governance possible in a different economy (probably a genuine article socialist economy) that doesn't exist, and might never exist

representative democracy, liberal democracy can increase in degrees toward direct democracy, but even then its delegative, a kind of bridge between representative democracy and direct democracy

No, people are vindictive and stupid.

Given direct control, they'll use destroy their own society at the whims of their petty jealousies and insecurities.

It has use as a feature of other, more moderate democracies i.e. citizens being able to propose laws directly via petitions, but not as a general method of government.

Not really. See the Melian Dialogue for why not.

How would you implement that in a country of other than micro size?
Besides, representative democracy is better because politicians are more moderate and less dumb than plebs. If plebs ruled, you'd have shit like corporal punishments or regulated prices (at least here in Eastern Europe where plebs are plain obscurants).

I think theistic monarchy is the solution.

depends on size of governed area. larger countries would simply be impossible to manage through direct democracy. There is a reason the US was set up as a representative republic

Yeah we just tried that in the UK.

Didn't work out so good.

not possible anymore. i run into this a lot when talking with trad catholics

the monarch, a real monarch, is the strongest feudal lord, the lord above the lords, and the system of land ownership and peasantry which made lordship possible is gone

today monarchs are just dictators. which, yeah, on the one hand, that's all monarchs ever were, but on the other, their wealth either comes directly from taxation of workers and capitalists with no system of lesser houses under-girding the monarch, or also from investments in firms, whether state owned, which in fact makes them the owners, or not.

it's not a question of simply willpower, its that the actual way we produce and survive makes such a thing impossible, and we'll just be making a imitation of the past that isn't the real thing even if we tried

Democracy is very anti-/pol/
