Bomb disposal unit was brought in because the suspect said he had "bombs all over the city" and that "the end was near". They suspected him of having bombs on his person, or probably a suicide vest or something like that.
The way in which you dispose of a bomb safely, is to use a remote controlled robot to bring a small explosive to the device in question, then remotely detonate it. They probably used the robot to detonate his vest, or whatever they thought he might have on his person and just killed him in the process.
This is what any team would do in this situation. That he was killed by the remote detonation is secondary, and a non-issue. Would you prefer they try to shoot him dead first, then "blow up his body" later... would that have been more acceptable to you moralfag?

Honestly technology is the solution. When we pull people over just send in unarmed highly armored tech drones/rovers to talk to the guy in the car, in the street, etc. If they run, or fight the tech drone, we have someone who clearly in the wrong. Anyone else who is knowingly innocent can just talk to the drone and submit as necessary. And we don't have to worry about the drones killing anyone because they aren't armed. They can eat shots, and then from there be used to fire tasers. Everyone gets to keep their guns for 2nd protection rights, and we don't have miscommunication between cops and people, because we don't have cops patrolling the streets. We have cops piloting the drones/rovers that are only armed with tasers.
