In cases where the group is varied in thinking but still cohesive, reduced groupthink is a legitimate benefit. Management teams with diverse staffing perform better than homogenous ones, or much, much worse, depending on whether that creates discord or not.
It can also be helpful in cases where you need to market to various markets and having staff familiar with each is helpful.
