I did once a have a dialysis patient with a fistula that erupted. It was twitching and had a pulse when we got there, I left it alone since messing with it can make things 100x worse.
About a minute before we got to the ER it popped open which means the patient had an arterial bleed. The pressure was high enough that it was literally shooting out in straight lines and, for lack of a better term, assaulting me and my partner.

Salary depends on a lot things. Not all paramedics are the same.
911 emergency response medics are going to make more than medical transport medics. However, critical care transport medics make more than 911 medics because they go through extra training. Interestingly enough, flight medics in the helicopters make the lowest amount of money in some states. Certain states have better pay than others.
The first state I worked in paid a god awful wage, however I currently live in a state that gives us 911 medics a comfy wage. I would like to make more but at the moment I'm not going to be a spoiled brat and say that I'm living uncomfortably.
I've always worked as a 911 paramedic in a strictly EMS system. However if a paramedic joins the FD and becomes a Firefighter-paramedics they make a good deal of money and but more importantly get a ridiculous pension. Honestly it's to the point where fire-medics can be a drain on a towns resources unless its a big city.
I'm perfectly happy as a volunteer fireman and a career medic though, even if I make less money.
