Sterling was a registered sex offender, state records show. He was convicted in 2000 of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and was released from prison in 2004. Details of that case were not immediately available.
Sterling also had convictions for aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, unauthorized entry and domestic abuse battery, The Advocate reports. He was sentenced to five years in prison in 2009 for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and carrying an illegal weapon with a controlled dangerous substance.

I live in Baltimore City. Well, I went out to my aunt's house who lives in Baltimore county (Harford county to be exact)... and there was a homeless man sitting at a fast food place I was getting a burger at... the guy must have been in there all day because someone called the cops on him.... the cops came and the cop was very nice to the homeless guy.., the cop sat down next to the man and calmly started talking to him, the cop was so calm and nice and you could tell the cop had a lot of empathy for this guy... I thought "wow, cops can be very nice"... and within a blink of an eye, the "homeless" man pulled out a gun and shot the cop all in one stroke right in front of me.., the cop died. I now realize how tough it really is for cops when dealing with someone being aggressive with a gun, when someone non aggressive can kill a cop so easy. ..and keep in mind, Baltimore City is a million times worse than Baltimore county.
