90% of Americans will never travel outside of North America. Nearly half will never leave the state they were born in. To us, you are some faraway mystical land that only exists on the Travel channel. We send our famous people to your country to experience all about the food and the culture to save us the trouble. For all we know, it could all be filmed in a backlot studio with CGI. But that doesn't even matter. To us, you play such a little role in our lives, it is practically irrelevant. When we do think about other countries, it is merely in a tourist sense. Your culture and history is boiled down to a few landmarks, and we have no interest in anything beyond that. Any interaction we have with your country in the form of exports is just as cliche. We may recognize one or two of the products your country is famous for, but it's very unlikely. Anything else we happen to get from your country, we could just as well import from someone else, without caring, and probably cheaper.
It really boils down to this: we just don't care. Not in a mean way, just in an uninterested way. This bothers a lot of you, as you believe we should care what you think of us. But we don't. And we won't. Because America really is the only place that matters, at the moment.
