Any idiot should realize that free trade between countries does only one thing, it equalises the economies of the member nations. That's why it's always a bad idea to enter into a free trade agreement with a country whose economy is worse of than yours.

If their economy is bad they will have low wages and they won't be able to afford buying your expensive shit made by your well paid workers, so they won't buy from you. While the shitty stuff you make with cheap labour will sell well in the rich country since its cheap. Big companies in the rich country are thinking they have an untapped market in the poor country but they don't buy your shit cos they can't afford the it, so they think we have to make our product cheaper so we can sell to all these millions of people, and they make it cheaper by putting the factory in the poor country and hiring cheaper workers, this will also boost the overall economy of the poor country and the rich country will at least in the beginning think, well that's nice now product X is cheaper, not realising 100 people got laid off which means they are now on unemployment benefits eating your tax money and the rich country's economy suffers. This will continue until the wages and standard of living of all countries involved have become equal, this might work if you don't factor in the inferiority of certain races and cultures who will fuck shit up regardless of all the advantages they are given, like with Mexico and their cartels. It will then end with citizens of the shit country flooding into the rich country.

you don't need to reach an agreement to remove tariffs on any or all of the goods you trade. you can unilaterally just fucking stop taxing international trade. who cares if the other guy does? we're the fucking US we (used to) make the highest quality products and we all want "made in the USA" on things when we can get it. mexico has shit labor. they do not have a culture that gives workers a sense of personal responsibility for the end product as if passing along a gift or a treasured item, they have a culture that values the difficulty the worker subjectively perceives while he works, how long and how hard -- QA be damned.
