Khomeini revolutionized the clergy and bullied out the Quietists. Except Khomeinism was a reactionary movement and society slowly calms down. They try to keep up the narrative with propaganda to keep the reactionary movement going but it's not sustainable unless we have aggressors on our doorstep. Saddam's invasion helped keep it going a lot. If America or Israel attacked it would help a lot. But with nobody attacking Iran people just calm down. Quietists are making a return.
Quietism is returning in Iran but on the other hand political Islam is on the fast rise among Shiite Iraqis. A lot of them come to visit Khomeinis tomb. I would say Khomeinists represent maybe 20% of the Iranian population at most.
