The mega millions jackpot is almost up to 500 million. What does /pol think about playing the lottery ? I don't see anything wrong in buying a couple of lottery tickets each week for one or dollars when the prize could change your life forever . Low risk high reward
>>
Gamble all you want as long as you realize the odds and don't put yourself in a shitty financial situation because of it.

Just realize that you're better off just saving the money, though.
>>
>>79855423
Well....... I think it's okay to buy a latto ticket. I don't personally play, accept when it hit 1billion not long ago. I bought two tickets one night.

Just in time to distract the American public from the blatant corruption that has infested every aspect of the American system.

Saving 2 dollars a week won't get you anywhere

Waste of time and money. If you must play spending more then $5 a week is stupid as fuck.

I ran an odds simulator to see how much money I would need to pay to win and the winning ticket came after 3 days and 250,000 was spent. Lottery is a tax on idiots who don't understand math.

>by a single ticket for $1 every Wednesday and Saturday
>get small pulses of hope every time I think about winning hundreds of millions of dollars
>I know the odds and know I won't win
>still get those small pulses because hope is not rational

A single dollar buys me a few hits of dopamine everyday for almost four days. Well worth it.
>>
>>79853797
If you only spend a couple bucks on them a week, you're (on average) getting more entertainment on a per dollar basis than many other diversions. As such, they aren't as bad as they're made out to be.

Now if you're spending hundreds of dollars on them, and you're not a mathematician who figured out a flaw in their system, then you're wasting money. But that's nobody's business but your own.

Throwing a few dollars at the lottery twice a week is a hell of a lot less pathetic compared to people spending $5 a day at Starbucks. At least the lottery doesn't make you fat.

I should post the ticket where I won 100 or so and all my other numbers were off by 1. It was the one around 2012 that was 6or800 million. I always spend 100 when it's above 500 million, but I heard they changed the rules a year or two ago so there's less winners but bigger jackpots.
>>
>>79858594

Why? Explain how $4 a week on a lottery ticket makes you an idiot? Do you never spend anything in a frivolous fashion?

Do you see movies? Do you do anything besides sit in your mothers basement? Do you buy a car based on looks instead of reliability? Do you literally breathe?

I know Powerball went from 50 numbers to 65 or so

That must be it. I don't really follow it at all. I just buy tickets when it's over 500 million.

That's roughly $120 a month. Over a grand a year. Invest that or make an extra mortgage payment you dumb fuck.

No I don't support Jewllywood

The lottery funds both jews and degeneracy.
You would be better of spending that dollar on a hamburger from McDonald's. At the very least, that would cost them the resources for manufacturing goods.

>MUH SCHOOLS
I dare you to try and declare the amount you "donated" to schools by listing your lottery spending on your taxes.

If there was genuine altruism in your sentiment, you would be giving that money directly to the schools instead of sharing most of it with jews who WILL declare that tax deduction.

>Low risk high reward
This logic only works if the risk and rewards are inversely proportional. Taking probability into consideration, that lottery ticket is worth considerably less than the dollar that you spent on it.

Repeat after me:
ONLY

LOTTERY

Poor choice.

Expected ticket value decreases after a certain point due to a high number of participants and an increased likelihood of sharing.

He's a binomial distribution to explain the concept.

>>79860060
>>79860351

I avoid it at all costs. Yohoho, mother fucker.

Also, movies at the very least have production values that are in line with expected values.
I purchase a movie ticket.
In return, I see a movie.

I purchase a lottery ticket.
In return, I get.....
>>
>>79853797
I think of it as an insurance against not winning.
>>
>>79860459
Shit, I should have explained.

X value is the anticipated number of winners and Y value is the chance of that number of winners occurring.

I'm "not winning" right this very moment, and my quality of life has not decreased one iota.
Why insure yourself on something with no consequences?

A lottery ticket

At least you get something physical when you get a ticket
>>
There's literally nothing wrong with throwing a little bit of money that your existential nightmare will come to an end.

> Hurr durr make extra payments on your mortgage n shit

The marginal gains putting the money spent on the lottery into something better is not worth the loss of the lottery fantasy. I'd rather have the 1 in a billion chance than pay my mortgage off a couple of months early.

The same reason why some people buy insurance.

Look, if you don't know what a binomial distribution is, then don't pretend you have a clue what you're talking about.

It doesn't matter if everyone has the same odds of winning.
The value of the ticket still decreases the more people that play.

>>79860827
>At least you get something physical when you get a ticket
The concept of goods and services seems to be lost on you.

Internet connection is not a good either, but you still pay for that because you are getting something in return.

What is the "good" you get from a lottery ticket?
What is the "service"?
>>
>>79861036

People pay to see fantasy films, people pay for fantasy books, people pay for fantasy games.

Why is paying a small amount for the fantasy of being rich so bad?
>>
You should buy a powerball ticket.

In one of the multiverses you'll win.
>>
>>79853797
If you feel like it's a problem then it's a problem. I personally only buy a ticket when the jackpot gets big and no more than $5 for tickets. I do have a change jar that I cash in and buy scratch tickets occasionally.

The odds of getting rich off of the lottery is actually higher than the odds of getting rich working an honest job. This is why people buy the lottery.

It's a better deal than wage slavery.

What would you do with 500 million?

Half of it is going towards taxes.

$250 million

$50 million for living off
$1 million for the church the married me and my wife
$1 million for the other church that did our pre cana
$5 million to build a new church in my wife's home town overseas
$1 million for a Catholic scholarship
$1 million for family on my side
$1 million for family on my wife's side
$50 million in stocks
$75 million to open a dunkin donuts chain in North and South Dakota
$10 million set aside for my children
$15 million to start a resturant
$30 million for a house, land, and taxes
$10 million to make an indie video game

Because possible fantasy is better than an impossible one. Maybe I'm biased because I personally know someone who won £250,000. Not the jackpot, but bought a house at 22 and escaped the mortgage/rent Jew that plagues the rest of us for most of our lives.

>All value is monetary.

You might as well say going to a movie or doing anything at all isn't rational. Clearly, people still gamble or purchase lottery tickets despite the odds being against them because of the thrill it provides. Even if we limit it to just money, you can't use math on human values. A guaranteed dollar does not equal a one in a million shot at a million dollars. A million dollars could change your life even if the odds of getting it is low while a dollar is just a dollar.
