It's only natural that evolution would go that way. It's like you're a worm in a warm environment and you decide to adapt to that instead of say adapting to the cold.
What I personally find a lot more interesting is that very few creatures evolved means of navigation without an already present source. But thats probably more about evolution adapting to conditions then trying new things.
What do I mean by this? Well imagine if instead of eyes you had antenna like horns and on your forehead you had a organ that made radar pulses. You'd be able to navigate the world just perfectly. But no creature on earth uses radar.
