People die every year through homemade explosives. But they do it on New Year's Eve.
Last guy I remember had made a device that made windows burst in 2.5 km distance. Emergency rescue reported when they tried to save him he had his chest ripped open through the detonation wave.

Why do people blow money on fireworks?
They serve no real utilitarian purpose. The fun/cost ratio is low as fuck.
